Hey all, selling my 981 Boxster S in the next couple weeks (cause going to 718) and have a few questions.
1. Will having “SOUL” (from soul performance) written on the exhaust tips be a fail for visual inspection?
2. Is there anything fancy I or the shop needs to do for other visual inspection? I read conflicting information about whether or not I have to uncover engine for them and I don’t know how to do that.
3. Any Porsche-friendly smog check recommendations for San Francisco?
thanks!

Exhaust tips won't matter. As long as you have stock cat converters (or aftermarket with EO marking) you should be fine.
If they do the job right they'll need to open the engine cover and inspect the engine, yes.

You should be completely fine - it may be worth seeing if the shop cares about having the engine sticker though, because that might be tucked under all the interior trim.

Ended up going to San Francisco Smog at 3300 Cesar Chavez Street.
No drama about aftermarket exhaust/tips. Technician took a peek under the car from the rear but it was quick. I have stock headers and cats FWIW but I don’t even know if you can see them with such a cursory check. The tech did check sticker inside trunk.
In and out in 15 minutes!
