Default Burning Rubber-ish smell

2016 Cayman GTS, 7,500 miles. I recently purchased and drive it for about 500 miles and decided to have a paint correction and ceramic coat. When I got it back from the detailer, any time I drive it, when I pull in the garage after shutting off the car and walking around I notice the smell of what I think is kinda like burnt rubber near the rear.

I never noticed this before taking it to the Detailer. I know that exhaust tips are part of what he detailed. I’m curious, would the detailing compound used on the tips make a smell for another 500 or so miles?

should I be concerned about the serpentine belt?

Are there other rubber pieces that I’m not thinking of that I should check out?

I’ll probably take it to my local Indy shop later this year for a 10k service but didn’t want to wait if there’s something critical I’m not thinking of that I should get checked out. The smell isn’t strong or overwhelming and is not something I get inside the car.

thanks for advice!

I have noticed something similar from my car, which oddly enough is a 2016 Cayman S with 7,100 miles. My driveway is sloped somewhat, and I have been careful when going from the driveway to the garage since I'm not quite used to this car yet. I just thought that maybe it was a slight clutch smell from slipping it slightly going up the driveway slowly, albeit gently. I have only noticed it once but will keep an eye, or a nose on it next time. Back out to the garage now for more paint correction.

Maybe related - my driveway is also sloped, up when exiting the garage - so much so that I had ramps made to ease the transition so I don’t scrape on entry and exit. Hadn’t thought of clutch but pulling into the garage is all brakes, pulling out is definitely another story.

thanks for the thought, I’ll have to hop out and smell after backing out next time.

Love that ''Italian Tune up'' smell.

My old Air cooled really gave that "Burnt Rubberish'' smell with a hint of oil smell.

Normal. Drive it more.

Yup, I agree. Likely normal. I remember the first time I smelled it on mine too and was worried. First car that's ever done it but since realized it's completely fine.

Then there's the ticking sound and the engine cooling fans that run later.

That’s Porsche perfume. Best smell ever. Completely 100% normal.

That smell just means that you drove the car like it was intended to be driven. 100000000000000000000000000% normal.

Burnt rubber and brake dust! It's a smell of a well driven car. Remember, your engine is near the headers and rear wheels. Lot of heat there.

Thanks all! I guess it’s pedal down then, as usual!

Yes, good to know that is normal. I wasn't too worried about it - just an observation. It's been amazing so far although a lot of work to get the paint where I want it.

Great thread. I was likewise concerned about that smell and am glad to know it is just the car telling me thank you for driving properly.
