Default 981 Cayman Fog Light Delete

This is driving me nuts because I refuse to believe no one has done this.

I like my Cayman, I don't want to swap to the GT4 bumper, I just want to remove the circular fog lights since I feel they date the front end.

Has anyone found a clean way to do this? I'm at the point where I'm considering just 3D scanning the frame, continuing the gills over where the light sat, and then 3D print the whole thing - but that is a really blunt for solution for what I'm sure someone has found a simpler solution to.

The 981 Boxster has the more modern looking long narrow lights, as Porsche want to differentiate the Boxster from the Cayman front end. I'm assuming you also wouldn't want to do that if you dont want to switch to the GT4 front end, but you should be able to source a salvage Boxster front bumper cover at a lower cost for the swap if its about the cost of the conversion, and not about the effort

I have never seen any discussion of anyone modifying the front end on the stock setup in the 9 years Ive owned mine. Some prefer the more classic round look, and other prefer the more modern look, but it seems not enough to do much if anything about it. You have to remove the front bumper anyway to get those parts out to scan

Yeah, it's absolutely a weird personal thing. I just feel the round lights date things. I LOVE the GTS front end, even moreso than the GT4 front end (though not more than the 718GT4...), I just don't know if I want to dump a lot of money into bodywork for my car since I've already created what might be the world's most expensive non GT Cayman while appearing completely stock, haha.

Rough approximation of what I'm going for:

I'm actually just going to yank the fog lights out of there and see how it looks. Maybe even with the incomplete grill it'll look nice enough and I can calm my weird aesthetic taste.

The next issue with removing them completely could be some sort of warning light at every start that must be coded out with a Piwis tool at the dealer which they will charge for. I have no idea if this will actually be the case, but my many years of driving them has shown me that they tend to weave every little insignificant thing through the electrical ecosystem, and the car may cry foul if doesnt see it

I thought the same thing when I first got my 2016 Cayman S, but I have made my peace with the round fog lights. Of course, the GTS and GT4 front treatments both look appealing but I'm kind of a purist and want to retain the S front fascia. Here is how I came to terms with it - the round fog lights match the headlight details better than the other two variants. The fog light kind of anchors the upper corners of the grille openings from a design standpoint. All that said, I can see how someone else would not like them as they are a bit polarizing.

My car is Guards Red and I'm considering replacing the body color front lower trim with black unpainted trim. I know that is the base configuration, but it looks more correct and GTS-like with the black trim like you also have in the rear. Here is a base Cayman for example:

You could always add a set of those stylish headlight eyelashes..... I can almost guarantee they will take away the hatred for the round fog lights...
Shoot....You might even forget about the foglights....

Paint the chrome trim black and a dark tint on the lens🤔. Won’t throw a code and will not be as noticeable and will still kind of work.

It's never bothered me too much. That being said, I have seen it mentioned enough that you could probably recoup any costs of 3D printing by having a few extra copies made and selling them on here.

Maybe I'm a little advanced of years now lol but I would love round fog lights on German cars that no longer offer them.
I would frequently ride my cars in the dusk with parking lights (or drl's) and fogs only.

I am hoping you can come up with a solution to putting in led fog lights without replacing the entire bumper because I have wanted to do that to mine for a couple years now.

are you selling the drivers side fog light and surround by any chance? As I’m in need of one.

Or plastidip the whole lot to blend in (can be peeled off if/when you sell).

I like the shape of the opening for the Base and S models vs. the GTS front bumper cover but I don't really care for the chrome ring around the fog lights. I think even an aluminum looking one would better match the headlight details.

This is exactly what I am looking for! Do you have a solution? Best, Raphael
