Default Mix and match front and rear tires?

I'm trying to get 19" PSAS4's for my Boxster. I found the rears in stock at Tire Rack but they're quoting 6/3 delivery for the fronts but not committing to that date. Problem is I need rears real bad. I know it's not recommended but can I slap the PSAS4's on the rear for a bit and leave the Pirelli P-Zeros, which have plenty of tread, on the front for a few hundred miles? Performance isn't important but safety is.

IMO, too much hyper-drivel written against doing this. I’ve done it many times over the years (wear out the rears first, upgrade to to a later spec tyre, then match on the front eventually). Never had a problem. Ever.

Go ahead and do it...That kind of thing isn't recommended for high performance situations, but neither is driving on worn-out tires recommended for the street.

If you aren't tracking the car and just driving it on the street, the most important thing is having tires that are good quality and not aged out with tread for water evacuation from my experience. I would put on the rears if it's dire and do the fronts when they arrive. The PS4S will out-grip the P-Zero's but it shouldn't be a big deal for a few weeks.
