2022 18" Track tire thread
So I've done some searching and can't find any info on this, but is anyone still using 18" wheels on their 981's for track days these days? If so what are you running for rubber?
I originally bought 18" wheels as it was much cheaper to buy rubber for them and I now have 2 sets of great Apex wheels for the car. I've been running RE-71R's in the factory 18" size of 234/45 and 265/45 but those of course are no longer available. I'm now looking for a replacement ideally something that's similar in terms of performance and wear. The Yokohama A052 is listed as available in that size but I've had them on order since last October and still don't have a set of tyres for the car. I know I can go to the 245/40 and 275/40 size as well, although it'll lower the car 1/3" which brings it's own problems, but I'm happy to accept them if I can get tyres. But looking for those sizes it doesn't look like there's a lot of choice either,
I think the Nitto is available although at 100 treadwear I think it wouldn't last very long, the SuperCar 3 (not the R just the regular 3) also seems available but reports are those are about 2 seconds a lap slower
So love any input folks have of what they're running, or did everyone give up on 18s and go to 19s now?

I'm running 18s for the track on my Cayman. Hankook Ventus RS-4 - 245/40/18 & 275/40/18. They are definitely not as sticky as the RE-71R, but they last MUCH longer. I've had difficulty finding the RS-4s. They seem to only be available in the Spring from Tire Rack for whatever reason.

Are you looking for a set of wheels? I have a set of Titan7 TS-5s that I might be selling. https://titan-7.com/products/t-s5-fo...33593157091416

RE71RS tires are now listed on Tirerack's site, with availability indicated as June 1. Size selection is somewhat limited although the sizes I run are available in this first release (255/35R19 & 285/35R19).

RS4's are the way to go. Less sticky but they don't heat cycle as quickly as RE71R.
But now with prices going up on a lot of tires... I think it ultimately comes down to what you can snag them for and see if the price difference is justified.

Just to be clear, from the title of the thread, looking for 18" options, not made in those sizes.

Obviously. The point of my post is that the availability of the RE71R replacement is imminent. edit: and there are almost 40 sizes listed on Tirerack - up to you if any of those sizes meet your needs

RS4's are great if you're looking for something that will last a long time and you're willing to take longevity over performance. You'll give up a couple seconds/lap vs NT01s.
As much as we're paying for track time and gas these days, I'd rather spend a little more and get better performance, but now I've got these RS4's on my track wheels and can't seem to kill them fast enough.

Anyone have thoughts on the SuperCar 3s? The Grass roots test has them being as quick as the RE71Rs but another test I saw said they were like 2 seconds off the pace? I can get them so it's likely I'll give these a shot but curious if anyone else has thoughts.

What size are you looking for? To me, there are lots of options in 18" especially the 255/295 option which I think is ideal for this car for the track if you have adequate camber and wide enough wheels.
- 285/30R1893W
- 295/30R1894W <------
- 295/35R1899W
