Default Cayman S PASM and x73 springs

I have a stock cayman S manual with PASM and interested in lowering the car with x73 springs. Is this compatible and any reason not to do this?

thanks

Hi Jason,

I have a '16 Cayman GTS manual w/ PASM and I did the full X73 conversion in Nov'19. I have been extremely happy with the results -- significantly improved handling and stance :-). The X73 kit came from Suncoast (https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/C981CSS.html) and the installation was done by Porsche Austin. The only issue I encountered was loss of PDLS due to some programming dependence with PASM. On startup I get a PDLS fault which I have to clear via the instrument stalk -- minor inconvenience. Ohlins does sell a PASM delete kit to resolve this (https://www.ohlins.com/app/uploads/w...I_35020-07.pdf), but I have not had any experience with it. When I was going through this decision process, I found the following detailed post on Planet9 super helpful (https://www.planet-9.com/threads/pas...e-ugly.139465/). Hope this helps and best of luck with the conversion!

-Neil

You can try this and retain PASM function and have lowered ride height. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/por...roup%20%231#qa

There are a few guys over various forums that have simply added X73 springs to their PASM setup, and it works just fine. Porsche itself already offers something similar from the factory, Sport PASM which is PASM with a lower ride height

I’m a big fan of having a shock designed for a specific ride height and spring rate.

Does the 718 use the same dampers for PASM and SPASM?

I'm also interested in X73 springs swap with PASM shocks, but can't find the specific part# for the X73 springs. Did anyone else have any luck?

As mention above, you can fit the springs from the x73 to your PASM which will lower another 10mm. Thing to remember is, the x73 springs have been tuned to work with passive suspension and thicker anti roll bars. You may get a better result fitting a set of lowered springs designed to work with your active setup. Options are available everywhere.

My question is more about can I purchase the x73 spring alone without getting the whole package. I know the x73 anti roll bars for the front & rear can be purchased separately, but not sure about the springs themselves ...

I’m only aware of full kits being offered by Porsche. Speak to Suncoast.

Tequipment are one of the current manufacturers of OE Porsche suspension (there have been several), maybe contact them.

On a related note, what is the deal with PASM shocks no longer available? https://www.sunsetporscheparts.com/v...cks-and-struts
How does one go about replacing those in the future?

I wonder if the shortage is causing parts to be sunset earlier than usual.

You could try the Bilstein B4s, they’re basically OEM replacements.

Ya that's what I was looking at. Those are not in stock at most places. Expected ship date is July+
My right rear makes a faint squeak when it decompresses. Wonder if I should replace it or just turn up the radio...Car drives great.

EDIT: found the updated part numbers
Front PASM Shocks - 981-343-045-07
Rear PASM Shocks - 981-333-045-15

Those P/Ns you called 'helper springs' for the X73 are actually the rubber bump stops for those X73 shocks.

I didn't call them helper springs. Porsche did, as I indicated in my post, from Porsche V-Pages. They're called stoppers on a few parts sites that I looked up. I've seen similar discrepancies on naming of other parts. Absolutely agree with you that they are bump stops. There are three different suffixed p/ns on V-Pages. Not sure if there are significant differences and if they would need to be changed along with the coil springs for changes the OP is asking about?

Viper Pilot? Got to see a Viper demonstration at Air Show New Orleans this past weekend. Wow! Hadn't been to an air show since 1986.
