Default Is it time to sell

2016 boxster spyder with an embarrassing 600 miles on the odometer. Broken arm and unable to travel to second home in Florida made use difficult. Even though low production model prices seem static. Don’t buy cars as investments either. Don’t need the money out of the car either. Any thoughts

Probably a good time to sell unless you plan on not driving it. May be worth more in 30 years. Personally hard to justify all that money sitting there and not being enjoyed.

Sounds like the history of my Spyder (also 2016). Previous owner bought it new and hardly ever drove it. When I bought it in early 2020 it only had about 1600 miles on it; I'm almost to 15K now. Know something about the previous owner and he's a bit of a workaholic. Reportedly bought the car for his wife and it turned out she didn't like driving a manual. They also started having kids and got a M-B G-wagen in place of the Spyder.

A bit of a preamble to point out the obvious: Things change, expectations sometimes clash with reality, and as beautiful and joyous to drive as a Spyder is, if it doesn't mesh well with you and/or your situation, it might be time to part ways.

OTOH, how's your arm and do you plan on being back in Florida in the future?

If you don't think you will use it in the future I would sell. I was in a similar situation last year debating to sell my 2014 Cayman with 28K miles. I owned it for 2yrs and put 2K miles on it. The clincher was when my wife and I were out for a rare cruise and a car ran a stop sign hitting my left rear quarter. Well my wife will not get in the car any more so now decision made. Listing in the classifieds.

If you decide to keep and drive, don't forget to get the tires, and possibly drive belts replaced. Especially if car has just been sitting since 2016.

What are you life changes if your back to new again. If you think you will drive it and you still enjoy it when you do drive it, then keep it. But if it brings you no more pleasure to drive or to own, then i would dump it. Is there another car you would like to have out there if you sold this car? Maybe you can take the money out of this car and put it into something else. We can give you opinions and views all day long but only you can make the decision since this is not a money based decision.

The decision to sell or not is entirely yours, but if you should decide to let it go, you car is a prime candidate for Bring A Trailer. People bidding on that site love low mileage cars. Clean it up, get some good images and you'll probably get more than top dollar.

I agree. Should bring strong money now with those low miles and a manual. Set the cash aside, put it in the market when it dips down (which could be soon IMO!), enjoy the gains so you can fund a new toy down the road.

Yep. Have an accident free ‘14 Cayman PDK with less 14K miles going up for sale as soon as I get a 992 allocation.

"as soon as I get a 992 allocation" could be awhile after the boat burned down?

Generally speaking, I don't think now is a good time to sell. Porsche recently confirmed that the next boxster and cayman will be electric. These new cars may well be dynamically awesome, but they sure won't be the same living, fire-breathing beast you currently own.

With bespoke styling, amazing 6-speed manual, mid-engine layout, naturally aspirated engine, raw exhaust, and reliability of the Porsche brand, the only cars which tempt me are all priced north of $200,000 and I bet I'd be sorry after I swapped.

This car is a keeper. Obviously, life happens. But I feel sorry for any seller at the current prices, despite the recent increases.
