Default Is The 991.1 DSC control Compatible with a 981?

While I'm not sure I even need it yet for my Boxster GTS, installing one in my 997 made a world of difference. I'm considering upgrading and installing one. I see a lot of modules available on the secondary market for 991's but not a whole lot for 981's

Does anyone know if they are both the same and can be swapped interchangeably? Differences between V2 and V3?

Yes, the controllers for a 991.1 are compatible with the 981 (with a different configuration file, obviously). The controllers for a 991.2 are compatible with the 982 (718 platform). You can send a 991.2 version back to DSC and they can reconfigure it for extra charge (I think it’s like $250). I was skeptical at first, but I love the difference it made for my 981 CS. I have a V3.

Thanks, that is helpful. Good to know that modules from the later generation are compatible but just need a reprogram, though that cost plus the price of the modules may be the same as new.

Anyone know what differences are between V2 and V3?

Ii'm not sure they do actually need a new configuration file to work on a 981. From what I read, most people who use these in 981's use a GT3 file which is obviously for a 991. I actually have a DSC V3 sitting in my garage that was purchased for a GT4 and the forum member I purchased from never installed it, however it is marked as "991" on the actual DSC controller. I called DSC directly and was told it will work with my 981, no mention of a change to the file needed from them.

991.1 and 981 used to have different maps on them but DSC now uses the same map for almost all Porsches. I have a “991” DSC on my 981 - I called DSC and they confirmed they are the same

the $250 fee as mentioned above is if you want to move the DSC to another chassis generation. For example from a 981 to a 982/991.2

agreed and confirmed with Tom at TPC, a 991.1 DSC V3 controller is plug n play to a 981 no recalibration or reprogramming needed. it uses the same maps so if you find one for sale go ahead and scoop it up.

That is great to know, learn something new everyday!

We love the DSC Controller and Tractive shocks on our Camero Porsche, nice smooth ride on the street yet firm on the track at the push of a button.
