Help Help: I just separated the transmission case on my PDK transmission in preparation to replace the gear position sensor and after doing so I found a round piece of metal about the size of a quarter that is magnetic and it was hanging on the bottom of the metal gasket that goes between the two case halves. I have no idea where in the transmission it came from as it was just was hanging there after I separated the two case halves. Does anyone of you know where it goes or if it just lays in the bottom of the transmission? I'm sure it wouldn't be there if it wasn't a necessary part of the transmission and serves some function such as gathering minute metal fragments or something like that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Suggest you search the threads about PDK repairs. One of the threads references a Virginia Beach shop the did a gear position sensor. If you have not already review the PDK repair thread in ADMIN.

Thanks to all who considered my question. With the help of T Design 9 and a few photos I was able to figure out where the magnet piece goes (it's a different location depending on which PDK transmission you are dealing with, mine being for a 2013 Porsche Boxster S with the 3.4 liter motor with the non-locking PDK transmission. Once I complete the Gear Position Sensor replacement, and if it works, I will post some pictures and info as to what all was involved in the operation. I can tell you this, it is not for the faint of heart. If it weren't for the fact that I'm an old hot rodder from the 1950's and not smart enough to know what my limitations are I would never have attempted this challenge. Oh well, onward and upward!!
