Default 981 Supplemental safety bars

I really like the look of supplemental safety bars in exterior body color on the 981 (especially in white). Does anyone know if this is something that can be done as a DIY to a car that's got standard grey? Easiest way would be to buy the plastic parts in the desired color and swap them in. Second way would be to pop them out and paint them myself. Anyone ever try this? Difficulty? Thanks.

It shouldn't be that hard to do. It's just a plastic trim piece covering the steel hoop underneath. A Porsche WSM probably has info step by step.

Thanks. I'll poke around the '13 Boxster to see if I can figure out how the parts come off. When it comes from the factory painted, the cover over the hoops and the little fold-down flaps on each side are all painted so it's a little more complicated. I'm looking to do this on a GTS I'm hoping to pick up. hopefully the '15/'16's are the same as my '13.

.

I pulled mine off and had a local shop paint them to match, including the small wing pieces that flip up / fold down when retracting the top. Search for how to remove on planet-9, but I recall that it was quite easy - some prying and a couple of torx screws is all. Painted is a huge improvement on white!
