Default 981 Spyder - leave top down while in garage?

Hi -

I just recently purchased a 981 Spyder - love it! One question I have is whether people tend to just keep the top down when the car is in the garage. I plan on driving the car as much as possible, and plan to do so as a convertible...is there any harm in just leaving the top down or will it develop creases or some other issue?

I tended to leave my Targa roof open but learned the hard way that dust would accumulate in the track; but in the Spyder case doesn't look like there would be problems like that.

thanks!

David

I have a 987 Spyder and I usually leave the top down. No creases. If your garage is dusty or your top is wet/damp I’d recommend leaving top up.

I try to leave the top up as much as possible. You will get creases if it stays down, but they seem to come out over time. I admittedly don't drive mine as often as I should, do it regularly goes a week+ without moving. At that point, it's just easier to close it.

I keep my Boxster's top down in hopes of keeping the wear and tear down on the motor/linkage/fabric - since I almost never drive it with the top up so I'd have to keep opening and closing it every other day when I drive it.

Don't have to worry about the motor in the Spyder!

I think for now will keep it down unless I plan on not driving the car for more than a week.

I've noticed dust buildup in the interior if I leave the top down so if I pull in with the top down, I'll put it up but unlatched.

I have left it with the top down for up to 3 weeks or so w/o any noticeable creases developing.

Mines a 987 but I always leave the top up. I get the feeling that leaving the top down on cabs and convertibles is fairly common both indoors and out. I say this because when I was searching for my 964 I found the Targa’s and cabs often had far more interior wear and sun damage than the coupes with similar mileage. Between the sun, moisture and humidity changes I think leaving the top down will accelerate the aging process of your interior, even in the garage.

Nothing worse than that fine “garage dust” on an interior and my garage is like a clean room.

Regardless, don’t think any manufacturer recommends keeping it down for any length of time. 981 Spyders also have known top wear issues so check into that.

987 Spyder top different animal...

I put the top up in the garage, unless I know I'm heading back out a few hours later. Trying to avoid creases, dust, etc.
