I have a Fabspeed TrackTech installed by the previous owner. It sounds like the great true Porsche flat 6 wail while on normal mode, whereas it gets really burly and nasty sounding on the track/loud mode. I get a lot of compliments at the track with people surprised to hear a Cayman like this.

The PSE sounds MUCH better on my 981 CS than it does on my GT4. I think it's perfect....but what do I know....

We have some ideas! A set of Fabspeed Sport Headers paired up with Factory PSE Incredible set up.

Take a listen to our headers paired with the factory exhaust!

K', yesterday took advantage of the sales and got the FabSpeed X-Pipe Tips on order. Woohoo!

Next step was to do the FD MotorSport Mod on the mufflers.
HOWEVER, called the gentleman up and learned two things (very nice guy):

  1. He's in Brentwood of Northern California (in the Bay Area).. NOT the "OJ Simpson Brentwood" as he put it..
=> so need to correct the record on this point. Apologies for any confusion.

  2. He can't do a core exchange for the 981's. Says he just doesn't have the space in his shop to accommodate.
So this would mean I'd have to (1)remove the mufflers, (2)pack & ship them to NorCal, (3)let him do his work and then (4)have 'em shipped back.
Car would be down for at least a solid week or more just to replace the mufflers.

Hmmmmm, thinking... hmmmm... reconsidering.. hmmmm..

any updates on your exhaust?

still searching for a deal.... found the guys at flat6 have the Top Speed Pro 1 on sale right now for incredible price.

been doing a lot of YouTube watching lately on all the different exhaust...I gotta say, the 981 sounds pretty damn great with just about any exhaust...I guess it comes down to how loud do you want it and how much snap crackle pop you like.

gotta say, this Borla is one of my favorites on YouTube

That Borla is not bad...much more deep sounding and growly than other systems (that I prefer)...but likely much better than that Flat6 chinese special system you're talking about.

You're better off with Borla instead of that Top Speed Pro 1 system, IMO.

Don't forget, especially with PDK equipped 981's, it also comes down to...DRONE.

I have Brombacher that came on mine and it's pretty glorious sounding at WOT, but has drone right on the gas in any gear, and at highway cruising speed in 7th gear on the freeway.

I hear lots of systems have drone on the 981. If I could do it over I'd have the stock PSE. Or if I had non-PSE stock exhaust, I'd have it modified for more sound (with less drone). Carnewal also modifies exhaust:

talked to gentleman at flat6 today and asked some questions about the TopSpeed pro 1 said they're out of Texas who get some of there components from china but they stand by their product and they're sold out right now with the 987 version because it is very popular and just unbeatable price. I asked him what his recommendation as far as best bang for your buck beyond that one he said the AWE is top of the list. Borla claim they have no drone at any speed or rpm. Sounds like a GT4 in that video ....

with the price of the TS Pro1 with free shipping and no tax, it's almost too good to pass up. Sounded great from the one video I saw of it, (I'll try to find it) but something about the Borla has me on pause.

Here it is

Definitely a no-name, Chinese system. I'd rather have a US made Borla system myself.

With that said, aside from some of the higher end systems from the likes of Kline and Akrapovic (from what I read), you are likely going to get drone. Especially with any more aggressively sounding, cheaper aftermarket system on a PDK equipped car.

My nice German made, $2,200 Brombacher exhaust drones. My experience is very similar to this guy's Borla's experience:

Brombacher sounds awesome aside from the drone.

Nice! Yeah the more digging I do the more I'm hearing about drone issues with just about every system....

found the PSE on sale right now from Porsche Delaware but they charge $250 for shipping... maybenget local dealer to match the price $1750 right now.

Just trying to help!

PSE is ideal IMO. You do need to inquire about the install and wiring costs too tho. That’s fairly pricey from what I’ve heard.

Race headers + PSE = profit.

That setup sounds the business Mike...you can't however claim that that setup has no cabin drone on a PDK car though, can you?

I purely posted as an example of a great sound at full bore. You will definitely have in-cabin drone with catless headers and the exhaust with valves open. Valves closed mode would be very manageable for such an aggressive setup. Our Valved Exhaust by itself was created specifically to reduce drone and does a great job at it.

My car with catless headers and PSE has absolutely 0 drone with the valves closed, you can barely even hear the exhaust... WOT with valves open sounds like the gates of hell are opening.
