Default Grinding noise from steering column - 981

My 981 Cayman is making grinding noise near the steering column. It's sounds like plastic rubbing, doesn't happen constantly, and is not speed-dependent. Any guess as to what might have caused it?

Did you ever find the source/cause of the noise?

Its a faint clicking/creaking noise inside the steering column. It is not consistent at all. I might try to open the top/bottom pieces to take a peek.

mine was more of a rubbing noise.

you can pop the steering wheel off. it's really easy if you have the right 12pt. just need a new $9 bolt as it's not reusable. maybe its dirty or just needs some lubrication in the column.
