There was a guy that built a non-mechanical relay but I don't know if it caught on...I think most 993 owners enjoyed the pain of the mechanical relay, if nothing else but to talk about it.
I read this and had to add something it reminded me of "back in the day". In the early 80's I worked at a Ford dealer as a tech, and back then they were using a sealed primitive ECU that was mounted in the engine bay. It was an aluminum shelled unit. We found that the units would overheat and prohibit the car from starting. We would dump water on it, and if the car started, you knew it was the culprit. Then you just replaced it with a new one. Good times.

It’s been over 2 months since I changed the relay and I haven’t had anymore starting or stalling issues so looks like this was a good fix!

That's awesome! Thanks for reporting back. Valuable info in your fix for the next guy who runs into this.

"The "battery was replaced a couple years ago as preventative maintenance since it was 6 years old, so I doubt it's a battery issue."
I had a 99 Mercedes 320 coupe and the battery lasted 15 years with no batter tender. No lie!
I use BatteryMinder now. It desulfates the plates. Sulfate accumulation causes battery failure. dlb
