How to tell if engine mounts need replacing
Is there a measurement of any kind to determine if the engine mounts have compressed to the point where they need replacing? I replaced mine 8 years ago (30,000 miles), and am wondering if it's about time to replace them again. Also, since it's primarily a track car, I'm thinking of going with the Lindsey Racing Ultra-Mounts (not the solid ones - I still drive the car on the street a little). Any thoughts on those, primarily in terms of expected longevity? The original Porsche units are ridiculously expensive, and everybody advises staying away from the aftermarket pieces. Thanks.

There is a measurement you can take with calipers on the actual mounts to determine if they are within spec or squished and hydraulic oil inside is not doing its job anymore. It's in the factory manual or so a search. There's also the seat of pants technique which is when sitting in car while idling does seat vibrate and rear view mirror vibrate if so your great running engine is in need of new mounts.

esseight,
Are you measuring 58 mm between the upper and lower attachment points for the mount with the engine in the car, or did you actually remove the mounts to make the measurement (seems like a lot of work to determine if you have a problem!)? Thanks.
