Engine harness differences auto-manual?years?
Good-day folks,
I am an owner of a 944S with toasted bores. Being an adventurous guy I located a 968 engine and would like to swap it in. The 968 was an automatic. It does not come with dme, but has harness.
Please educate me on the the differences of the harnesses if there is any and if I can run any 968 dme on it. Thanks in advance!
Jim

I think porscheg96 did this, search for his threads, well swap from tip to manual. Your car, different story, and I can not answer directly.
If it is just the engine, the DME not sure if it is different or same with a tip module.
Radiator and starter are different.
This is not a complete list, but if you did the tranny too:
1 MANUAL TRANSMISSION.
- 1 TRANSMISSION CROSS MEMBER/ SUB FRAME W/ TRANSMISSION MOUNT
- 1 CLUTCH TORQUE BELL HOUSING COVER
- 1 CLUTCH FORK W/ PIN
- 1 CLUTCH ASSEMBLY
- 1 FLY WHEEL PRESSURE PLATE
- 1 CLUTCH DISC
- 1 CLUTCH HOSE
- 1 DRIVE SHAFT
- 1 DRIVE SHAFT COUPLER
- 1 PAIR REAR DRIVE AXLES W/ HUBS (ABS TYPE)
- 1 DRIVE SHAFT SOUND ABSORBER FOAM
- 1 DRIVE SHAFT EXTENSION ( CLUTCH SLEEVE)
- 1 SHIFTER ROD
- 1 CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER
- 1 CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER
- 1 CLUTCH PEDAL
- 1 MANUAL SHIFT LEVER
- 1 MANUAL RUBBER SHIFTER BOOT W/ METAL PLATE
- 1 SHIFTER BOOT RETAINER BEZEL
- 1 MANUAL SHIFTER **** WITH LEATHER BOOT (BLACK COLOR) ( 6 SPEED ON CAP)
- 1 HARDWARE FOR CLUTCH PEDAL
- 1 HARDWARE FOR BELL HOUSING COVER & CLUTCH
- 1 STARTER MOTOR ( WORKS FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION ONLY)

Thanks, it's just an engine and harness. Have to dig deeper to find more about how/ if the tip transmissions interface with Dme and harness. I am not looking to change transmissions.

I've read that the tip does interface with the engine DME and based on my limited experience, there is an interface between the tip and the DME, just haven't pursued the extent by looking at the electrical prints.
Best bet is to get a standard wiring harness and start from there. No since in further complicating the issue.

Three Wheelin'
I've done this I ripped out all the triptonic wiring harness and relay then installed clutch & brake pedal hardware along with master and slave and all acc gearbox parts needed. Everything runs great in regards to the engine, the only thing the triptonic trans cars had different was wires that run into pass side footwell then to 14 pin connector that leads to dme for letting engine know it's kickdown and upshift throttle response. Most likely the engine computer adjusted its idle up and down rpm wise for different trans scenarios.
Once you go to old fashioned manual box you don't need this feature and when you remove the triptonic computer in back of car or in your case go to manual it doesn't ever get that signal but doesn't need it to function normally.
