Default S2/968 hatch trim piece

Hi all, have a few questions about a hatch that I recently picked up. It's missing the bottom trim piece as shown in the pictures.

Does anyone know where/if this piece can be found? Also, I think this part is different between the S2 and 968 hatches where the 968 has the brake light. Otherwise, are the other parts of the wing interchangeable?

Just trying to figure out how to proceed with this one. Any and all help/comments appreciated!!

You can still get these new from Sunset etc but they're not cheap, probably $350-400. There are aftermarket folks that make spoilers and trim pieces for the hatches, but i've never seen or heard of them selling only the one piece.

Edit Here's a link to the 968 piece at Sunset.

Don't buy the 968 trim part unless you already have access to the 3rd brake light mounting bracket. They are NLA from Porsche and essentially impossible to find in acceptable used condition. The S2 trim part is still available in the ~$350 range. It doesn't have the cut out for the 3rd brake light and you would need to install/retain the 3rd brake light off of a 944 to be street legal. Hope this helps.

Curious, do you have a picture of this bracket that is NLA? Wonder what it looks like.

You can find it in the 968 PET, Illustration 905-15, PN 951 631 121 00. Looks just like the picture.

Very good info thanks!

Have been reading a bit more and it sounds like on the 944 that if you do run the brake light in the trim piece (968 style), that you can have an interference issue if you try to open your hatch from the outside with your key. Hah, and I thought this would be easy...

With the standard factory key, it is impossible to get the key into the lock cylinder with the hatch closed, therefore you're limited to the hatch release from inside the car. If you have the "valet" key head then it is possible to slip the key into the lock cylinder. I would highly recommend going with the S2 hatch unless you just have to have the 968 third brake light.
