CS Battery Location?

CS Battery Location?
My Sport has its battery located under the rear left (nearside) boot carpet. Yet other Sports and CS's I see as just behind the engine while others do not. Was there a reason and year split for this set up? I can understand the weight distribution aims but would have assumed this would have been thought of at the outset.

Was only for right hand drive 968 cars, was a steering column thing?
I don't recall, not sure if AUS or JP have them in that place.

Have now been told that to fit the pedal box for rhd versions the bulkhead was raised. No room for battery. More for practical reasons then it seems - weight distribution being the added bonus/effect I guess. Means I have to attach and trail the battery conditioner leads accross the garage floor to a not so near supply...
