Default Blower Motor Resistor (HVAC Fans not working)

Pretty sure this is the classic resistors not working, as all I can do with my inside fans today is off or full blast.

Is the setup the same on the 968 as the 944?

Am I looking under the cowl on the drivers side, for a resistor pack?

944.616.105.00 Is this the part?

I assume the same issue https://rennlist.com/forums/968-foru...-105-00-a.html

Mine works though at full.

Pull it and test it with an ohm meter. They heat up running on low speed continuously and die. ....always shunting current when the car is running and not on high speed. '0' is just low low.

From what I have seen and recall the 944 HVAC blower resistor assembly has two of the little bimetal contactors (that need to be cleaned) and the 968 unit has one. The 968 might be an updated part, kinda appears to be. This is the resistor pack that slots into the HVAC blower assembly, not to be confused with the big puck resistors for the radiator cooling fans. It's pretty easy to pull and clean/replace.

To clean the bimetal contacts I open them with a toothpick and drip some acid in there. Then I flush with water and then alcohol to dry them. They should turn coppery color.

The last time I had this problem my fan switch on the dash had broken apart internally and I replaced the CC head with a spare to solve it. The 968 CC head has a (very 90's) detent pot for the temperature but the 944 replacement I used did not. It works well though. Be advised that the earliest versions of the 85.5+ 944 CC heads are not (IMO) as good as the later ones, which have more compact electronics and a replaceable aircon switch. I did not try just replacing the rotary **** switch as I have spare CC heads.
