In hard cornering, you don't need to worry about the inside (unloaded) tire; it's the outside one (heavily loaded) that will rub first. Track loads are much higher than typical street loads so that may influence how "close" you want to cut it. Even on the track, the inside tire won't be off the ground, though it will be lightly loaded (the amount depends on suspension stiffness, antiroll bar, etc.)

The rear combo looks like it'll be fine. The front combo is just too much shoulder. I'm going to try some 225/40s on the same wheel up front and see how that goes.

The wheels are OEM lightweight 5-spoke "MY02" Carrera style. Looked pretty good... if you don't mind the shine. (It's for the wife, cut me a little slack...)

I put this setup back on the car, and got it on the ground this time. Can confirm it fits up front with zero issues, and on the rear, the e-brake cables just need to be secured slightly further inboard.

I just installed 18x11 ET63 996 GT3 rear wheels onto my 968 coupe and it fits with 295/30-18 tires and 8mm spacer, so effectively ET55. I'd say there's about 1/4" clearance to the trailing arm mount protruding from the inner wheel well liner but plenty of clearance elsewhere. It also looks like 1/4" clearance to the outer fender so I wonder if a 305/30-18 tire would fit [except nobody appears to make this size anymore]. This is with totally stock body and brakes but lowered on Moton CS and about 2.5 degrees of negative camber...

I'm also trying 265 front tire on 9" wide front wheel with ET50. I'll drive it this weekend to see how everything fits! Currently I feel like the 968 would max out with 275/35 front and 305/30 rear sizes without modifying the body, and assuming alignment + offsets are ideal.

That's got to have a wide stance look with that wide of wheels and tires!

I am looking to buy new track wheels. My car has stock 968 brakes but new 2.25 in springs / coilovers etc. I'd like to get as close as possible to the perfect offset with no rubbing or spacers.

What mm offsets should I specify for 8.5 and 10.0 x 18 new track wheels ?

Thanks

I think somewhere in the range of ET50-ET55 for both front and rear depending on camber and tire sizes.

I've officially maxed out the stock-bodied 968 rear wheel well with a 12" wide CCW wheel wearing 315/30-18! I just have to find a bracket to secure the e-brake cable closer to the spring plate because it's touching. I also have 275/35-18 squeezed into the front fenders that I test drove and will autocross with this weekend.

Nevermind - just now saw the photos above. 315 in the rear, 275 in front....nice.

The Turbo RS apparently ran 265/30(?)/18 in front and 305/50(?)/18 in the rear.

Jay, I autocrossed the 275/295 tire combo yesterday and there's no rubbing but I think that 265 front tires would leave a bit more margin. As it stands now the 275 front ONLY FITS with the following pre-requisites:

At least -3 front camber
2.5" ID front springs
ET52 offset
9" wheel

If I could change to a 2.25" ID front spring then a 9.5" ET50 could fit and then I'd max it out with possibly a 285/30-18 front tire. The 285/30 front tire is nice because it's much shorter than 275/35 and would be less likely to rub vertically, but the tire might scrub on inner wheel well liner when near the steering locks.

Great info - that stance looks incredible.

That shot from the rear is what dreams are made of!

275/35 and 295/30 18"

When I make the modification to fit the 12" rear wheels then I'll be using 315/30 18" at the rear.

You really want to keep overall tire diameter at 25.5" or less...

I'm guessing that the 968 Turbo RS sizes were 265/35 and 305/30 18"
