Default 968 RWHP

My 968 has just under 200 rwhp. This is a completely stock engine with re-freshed head, stahl headers and racing muffler.

What would it take to get to 230-240 rwhp?

Thanks, Mike

Sub'd and seconded... Also interested in simple mods to a bone stock 968 cab that will unleash it a little bit.

So far all I think I know is to get an RS Barn chip, not much else. To be clear, I have no intentions of doing serious performance mods to this car. I have a 996 Turbo Cab when I want to go nuts. This car is for touring only. No desire to even change the exhaust.

Mike, how far do you want to go? Full on mods like S/C or turbo kits?

Maybe the airbox mod, RSBarn chip, RSBarn headers and cat back will get you close to the 17-18% gain you're looking for, but you will have a louder exhaust note with a very different tone, which not everybody likes.

stock engine = not enough = like kissing your sister/okmaybeyourcousin.

so let's cut the crap....

a turbo or V8 is the only hope of livening up the car to the point where you're

1. interested in driving it.

2. able to make it past the local bowling alley and return home without calling a tow truck.

I prefer the supercharger to a turbo, and don't get me started on V8 conversions.

Mike's not an airbox mod away from his goal. My suggestion, forced induction.

Depends what the OP is looking for. He says he's looking to get a 17-18% bump in HP - maybe that's all he feels he needs. The big power gains from turbocharging or V8 swapping come with big implications in terms of cost, throttle response, longevity, weight, alteration of the "character" of the car, etc. For some people, these trade-offs are worth it. For others, Big Power may not be worth the hassle and expense. I know that if I had a strictly street 968, I would have zero interest in huge power gains, because there's just nowhere near where I live where I could enjoy it.

Also, from the OP's avatar, it looks like his 968 may be primarily a track car, in which case he would have rule issue to deal with. Oh, and I just read his post more closely, and see he already has headers and a racing exhaust. Hmmm... 200 rwhp sounds very low with that set-up and a freshened head, although of course the figure depends greatly on the type of dyno used. I would start by making absolutely sure the timing was set correctly, although that's opening up a whole 'nother can of worms.

i'm thinking the average H20 pump should go 40,000 miles between changes running a supercharger. and we know the Gates belts will go that far and more....

I know i'm being an ***, but I eagerly await the first person to inform us about daily driving 39,000 miles past the bowling alley without some type of catastrophic ending.... or having to replace 5 drive belts along the way...

I don't mind the supercharger being totally shot at that point... we know it will be.

and I don't care that the gas mileage dropped from 28 mpg to 12 the day you installed it.

just show me the 39,000 miles.

Mike,

Email me at mjc.llc@comcast.net and I will share with you my last dyno sheet and what it took to get there.

Regards,
Joel

You'll need almost 300 at the crank and probably the only way of getting there is forced induction, or a V8.

Do you have a dyno sheet you can post up? Mine is here

https://rennlist.com/forums/968-foru...t-results.html

and a local buddies on the same dyno is here

https://rennlist.com/forums/968-foru...o-results.html

From what I understand - unless you go forced induction (5k+ for a kit) than 230 - 240 RWP is big big dollars. I wouldn't be surprised if you were looking at close to 10k. Bump in displacement with an offset grind crank, aggressive cams(http://www.rsbarn.com/968camshafts.html), balance shaft delete maybe, dry sump(http://customengineeredperformance.com/drysumppans.html), balanced pullies(http://www.4451asr.com/page2.html).....

I'd love to have someone show me wrong with dyno sheets posted to prove it These cars are pretty well tuned from the factory.

There is no replacement for displacement.

Josh,

Did you ever take Lear35A up on his offer to go to the dyno with you? His 968 has a low boost supercharger, so it would be very interesting to compare his results to yours.
