That is a bit of a splitter you have there....nice. Those fenders are custom fibreglass I presume? Do you have some more info on your car?

Pablo I was wondering if that was you, I received the Grassroots Motorsports email today and seen your picture. Speaking of the fender, where did you put the ABS module there in the right fender?

Thanks everyone!

The high-end wing and diffuser generate a lot of downforce on the rear. So understeer in medium to fast corners has been my battle. The splitter is as aggressive as we could conceive seeking to generate as much down force as possible at the nose. Pretty sick design by AJ Hartman once it was all said and done. Has 3 different foils (think underside of a wing) underneath. A serious center profile and another two profiles under each of the outer sections. One of which dumps into the wheel well/fender.

As a result we needed to vent the fenders to manage the downforce-killing high pressure generated. So we decided to get rid of the fender inside liners and open up the fender to vent as much as possible. But I did not want to detriment too much the nice fender curves the 968 has. Therefore we decided to go with the small high efficiency louver on top and the opening on the side. Fenders are the factory metal units. The side opening was done so that it clears (albeit by just a tiny bit) the ABS system in there. On that front, since we removed the liner, we also installed a custom aluminum piece to protect the ABS unit and lines in that area.

Cheers,

Love the fenders! Very interesting to hear the comments regarding the areodynamics of the 968. Neat to see the photographs of all this thought out and tested. Thanks for sharing! Best of luck.

Pablo,

How do you test the impact of all the aero changes made? Are you using a wind tunnel or simply data gathered at the track? I'm not aware of any 968 having such significant aero enhancements.

Data has been one of the things I which I would have invested-in well before now. In fact, I am still using a borrowed Aim Solo. So unfortunately I do not have a lot of hard data to analyse and/or show. Nonetheless we do have some, and have been consistently gathering more since Daytona last year. Before that, it has all been Lap Times and my own less than perfect fat buttmeter. Most times it is not difficult for me to know and feel what a change has done though.

Compared to last year, the new aero package is much more refined, efficient, and powerful. Out of the gate we had a data-confirmed 4 second improvement in lap times at VIR. Some of it marked under the horsepower gains column, but I'll say 2/3's of it to added grip. We obviously can see the grip improvements from the data. Same at Pocono Long CCW with north infield even though the data is not all that relevant vs historical given the repaving, etc...

Can't wait to read the article in Grassroots Motorsports. Any idea which month it will be in?
