Wheels/Tires for DE/Club Racing
Would like to hear from folks who track their cars...DE or Club Racing...
I am now considering the following setups for my 968 DE car non M030 but with Moton Clubsports - my car has coilovers so that is the reason for 265 on the rears.
Tires - 225 fronts and 265 rears
Option #1 - Michelin Pilot Sport Cups $1296
Option #2 - Yoko Advan AO48 - $996 (2007 production dates)
Option #3 - Toyo Proxis R888 - $1092
Wheels - 8.5 and 10.0 x 18
Will I need spacers with either setup ?
Option #1 - Enkei NT03 Offsets Front 50 and Rear 60 ($1350/silver)
Option #2 - OZ Alleggerita HLT Front 53 and Rear 65 ($1636/blue or $1716/gold)

On those wheels, most Club Racers run wider rubber. I think you'll find the most common set-up to be 245 F and 285 R in Hoosier R6's. With the right offsets, clearance is fine (I've run them no problem). I currently load a set of 17's with 245 and 275's due to my Fikse wheels on hand.
There is growing use of Hankook Ventus DOT-R tires in similar sizes as well. Can't speak to the others listed, as I don't typically see them in Club Racing. I ran Toyo RA1's in my first year of CR. Wore like iron but not nearly as fast as the Hoosiers. Be careful... sticky DOT-R's are like a hit from the crack pipe. You will like the stick... and find then ways to justify the cost

Dave, thanks for the pointer on those specific tire racing sizes. Someone else also mentioned buying slightly used racing tires as a lower cost alternative from John Berget Racing Tires in Delavan, Wisconsin.
odb, the goal is to be in compliance with PCA rules for wheel sizes with a somewhat lower cost wheel instead of a fully forged wheel. I have done about 30 track days using R compound tires in the past few years and I would run in the novice groups.
It would seem to make sense to stick with R compounds until I get more experience before moving to a more aggressive tire like an R6.

Yeah, I hear once you go R compound you never go back. I wouldn't know, I'm still on street tires, so I'm no help to you on the tire situation.
Those are great choices in wheels, though, especially for your goals. I'm not sure how much your inside wheel clearance has changed with the Motons in the rear and I'm guessing that's 2.5" springs up front. Still they seem like safe offsets, and that's the only issue I'd consider custom forged wheels to address. Also, those two models are very popular with most makes and most other forms of motorsports.
Does your region do time trials?

Steve, Yes I run 245s up front and 285s or even 295s on the rear. I have bought tires from John a couple of years ago, 50-75% tread left pretty good price. I run Hankooks now, but still have some used Hoosiers to use up this year. If you want a good longer lasting DE tire I like Nitto's NT01's

Wheels are a done deal - just got a set of 18in CCW wheels from a fellow Rennlister.
Gotta love this place. Thanks everyone for input on tires/wheels.
