Default Idle adjustment?

Ok, I've read up enough to know that we cannot adjust our idles however I want to know what outside elements can cause a high idle? It hovers between 1200-1400 but only after initially starting at 850-900. (cold start = 900, first stop sign = 1400)
I did pull most of the vacuum lines when I fixed the firewall but I didn't see any bad hoses. Could the idle be caused by a line that loosened itself from bad installation?

High idle is usually a vacuum leak. Get a vacuum gauge and check your idle vacuum, and then cap off as many ports as you can to see if you can improve it. That's assuming you can't find a disconnected vacuum line from a simple inspection.

Vac or the idle air control valve. They start to stick after a while, and will cause a high idle intermittantly.

I suppose the IAC could stick open, they get pretty gunky. They can be finagled out from under the manifold and cleaned. You can use a 9v battery to operate it and make sure it is operating smoothly.

I've heard about the IAC, where is it located? Pictures are worth 1000 words

Below the intake manifold.

Top of the photo shows the throttle body, so you can see where it's located in relation to that.
