Default HIDs. Finally

So after many searches and no real success, I decided to take the hid topic on. I vacuum formed my own lenses.

Pieced together an hid kit, and got to work.

And tonight, turned them on for the first time!!

All said and done, I couldn't be happier. The result was worth the time it took to get it right. I made about 50 lenses before I got it right.

Don't mind the ugly black stuff, that's the sealant. After it cures for 24 hours, it will be trimmed.

Haha. This was the first car I hadn't converted, but the lack of lenses had me stumped. I didn't want to go the route you went due to budget. Had to make my own solution. Your car is amazing though!!

Well see. Would have to figure out pricing, but since new lights are 400, and replacement lenses don't exist, I guess there could be a market.

968 uses the standard 7" lens like the 944 right?
If so, here's a 7" bi-xenon solution for $370

I've never had an issue with lamp output, but improvement is improvement I guess.

Yes, I really admire the zms's craftsmanship, but I'm also a little puzzled as to the need. In other words, what's wrong with the original lights (other than that they're silly pop-ups that weigh a ton...)? Maybe a demonstration of the stock lights side by side with zms's would be an "enlingtening" experience...

I think my 968 lights are cannons especially compared to my 951 before I put hids in it.nNice job though!

when you've got the brights on, you've got the the driving lights adding to the low and high lamps in the Xenon housings....

result: the visability is totally incredible.

I need to get back to that, lots of stuff going on in my life right now...

I've been mocking up the components in one of my extra bumper light housings. Looks like everything will probably fit, ONLY after a little bit of cutting for clearance, and partial disassembly of some components. It's promising, but not easy.

I know the 944/951 are sealed beam and the 968 went to an H4(?), but they are both 7" right? So in theory it should work for both. I don't have a 968 lens at home, but I measured the bezel and it's the right size for a 7".

i haven't looked at it closely, but i'm guessing the solution goes something like this;

1. start with the smallest complete Xenon lamp (and lens) you can find (you already found the lamp, yes?).

2. now cut the rear of the 968 driving lamp housing to allow the Xenon lamp to sit comfortably inside behind the outer lens of the housing...

this will obviously require a the gutting of part of the lamp housing and fabricating a cradle for the Xenon lamp to be firmly cradled inside (perhaps with the help of clear silicone adhesive which will dampen the bumps and vibrations from driving).

3. now the *** end of the Xenon lamp is overhanging out of the back of the 968 driving lamp housing....

4. so you need to construct a cover and and keep the air and moisture out.... make it so that it's front makes a flush seal over the back of the 968 driving light housing and clamps down with screws (my guess is to start with the bottom end of a food containing or shampoo bottle), then make make it more solid by laminating it with epoxy, and fabbing a base wide enough to include an o-ring to ensure a good seal..... then, drill holes for the wires.

5. then, notch out the bumper cover to accommodate the outcropping.....

*(may require that you take a sunday afternoon/evening/and into the wee hours of monday off from posting on OT).

good luck.
