Beware of creating too much thickness as it will cause difficulties with clutch slave length engaging/disengaging the clutch

I have seen this discussion come up several times about the firewall cracking. Obviously another weak point of the car that needs to be watched as the cars age. I have not seen a definitive answer yet regarding this issue. As others have mentioned, it is a difficult spot given everything that is placed within that section of the car. Does anyone know if the 924/944/951 models have a similar issue?
