968 - 17" tire size feedback - S03
re: 1994 968 Cab with factory 17" C2 wheels
fronts: 7.5"
rears: 9.0"
Gents,
Seriously thinking of going with marginally larger tires. The car will be a daily "summer" driver occasional DE event.
Front: 225/45 -> 235/45
Rear: 255/40 -> 265/40
Decided that I will go with the Bridgestone S03 tires over the Toyo T1S.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I have an 87 944S. ( I am hoping to find a 968 engine to install)...Pardon me, I digress.
My 944 has had the so3's on my 993 17 inch rims for about six months. they are 225f,255rear.
I was not aware one could safely put larger tires on those rims. Can this be done?
Anyway I LOVE the SO3's I had so2's before and they were great, i did not think they could make a better ultra performance street tire. but they did!
Also I was told by someone at tire rack that these would have about a 60% improvement in tread wear.

According to the Bridgestone S03 spec. sheets
235/45-17" need a minimum width of 7.5"
265/40-17" need a minimum width of 9.0"
My '94 968 wheels meet this requirement however I would like feedback from members that have tried this or have reasons why this would not be advisable.
Again the car would be a summer daily driver with the occasional DE event...Thanks..Petko

I'd stick with the 225/45 and 255/40 combination. Going larger will only slow your car down due to the larger diameter.
IMO the "cabs" aren't really an all-out performance car anyway and I can guarantee that the 225 & 255s will be more than adequate for serious street driving, and should hole there own on the track too. If you can outdrive them on the street... well, you are taking too many chances because you can go darn fast with them. I have the same sizes on my 944 S2 (heavily modified suspention) and they are fantastic.

Thanks the feedback.
The slightly larger diameter should marginally improve the the ride quality (~4.0-4.5mm additional sidewall)and asthetically will fill those wheel wells quite nicely.
Agreed from a perfomance perspective the stock sizes are more than adequate for a Cab.

The stock sizes will be more responsive than the larger sizes that you mention. However the larger sizes will offer slightly more "grip". I would go with stock sizes.

Just reading through the ABS portion of my 944T workshoip manual last night (sad.... yes!), but It states in there that if you change the rolling diameter, it will throw out the ABS due to the calibration inside the control unit..... Sounds expensive!!
