Post 968 17" wheel weights???

I need new brakes badly, and want larger rotors- to do this, I need larger rims. I have a 944 Turbo S, and really like the rims I have. As far as looks go, for a 951, I like them better than anything else out there, but, they don't come in a 17". 968 rims (Wheel Enhancement calls them C2's) are about the only other rims I would really like as well. Unfortunately I've been told that they are EXTEMELY heavy. Has anyone out there ever weighed their 968 rims either with or without tires? I would especially like to know how much the 17" optional ones weigh, but even if someone out there has weighed their standard 16" 968 rims, then it would still help me...

Also, if anyone has ever weighed, or found the weights of "Twist" rims and/or the new "hollow spoke" rims, then that would be very helpful, as they are about the only other's I'm really interested in. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks a lot,
Robby

Question

I believe the WHEELS you are talking about are one piece cast and you can't weigh the rims alone since they are part of the wheel. Or are are talking about the 3 piece Supercup/986TRS wheels? Or are you confused as to the difference between a wheel and a rim? I don't think anyone would want to unbolt the rim halves from the center just to weigh them?

rims = wheels

I weighed one of my 17x7.5" 964C2-Turbo replicas. It came out to be 24lbs. If I had my druthers I would get some Fikse FM-5s or FM-10s.

This is an FM-5:

I think you guys are talking slang here. A rim is only part of the wheel. If you order "rims" from BBS you won't be happy with what you get!

Edit

From the dictionary:

rim
PRONUNCIATION: rm
NOUN: 1. The usually curved or circular border or edge of an object. See synonyms at border.
2. The circular outer part of a wheel, furthest from the axle.

Robby, check back here Saturday. My Cup 2 17" 968 wheels will be back from refinishing, and I'll weigh them before I put the tires back on. They are the real 7.5 and 9" 968 wheels. Since I have my winter wheel/tire combo on I sent these out to be redone. I'll try and find a proper scale, but the bathroom one may have to do!

In response to John's post re:18" wheels
http://ucr.entrevision.com/PCAUCR/Di...256b3d006806ac

I've seen these wheels in person & I question if they are in fact 3pc wheels. The outer "rim halves" are cast - not forged! I was able to deduce this from one of the rims whic had a deep scrape. Forged halves are approx. 3mm not 8mm! They are not RHs or any other brand I'm familiar with

OK, here we go. 7.5x17" factory 'cup 2' 968 wheel is 20 lb, 9x17" factory 'cup 2' 968 wheel is 23 lb. Wheels were just refinished, then waxed. Hopes that helps.

Wow, I posted this in November, came back a few times, and hadn't gotten a hit- I had forgotten all about it- I've still been looking for the weights though- I just forgot that I had posted it here- I must have forgotten to hit the little box that notifies me of responses w/e-mails...

Anyway, by "rim" I am referring to the "wheel" minus the "tire" No, really I was just f***ing w/everyone and wanted them to unbolt 3 piece wheels- I just drop by in my spare time to mess w/Rennlisters Seriously though, even the weights w/tires would have been fine, but since I've been told that the C2 rims (there's that word again) are much heavier than the Club Sports (which are what I currently have) then I was more interested in them only.

Damian- THANKS A BUNCH for weighing those for me! My Club Sports are:
16x7: 19lbs
16x9: 21.5lbs
So, obvioulsy there isn't as much difference as many have told me. I assume that your weights are fairly accurate too, as another guy sent me the weights of his C2's recently and they weighed 44lbs & 49lbs w/tires, whereas mine are 42.5lbs & 46lbs...

Thanks again <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

Try this site. It lists wheel weights for Porsche and others as well.

Hey Robby, are those Club Sports really 16x7" in front and not 16x7.5"? What do they measure across from outside-to-outside (overall width)?

Many people have said they are 16x7.5 and it may even be printed in some factory literature, but they are definitely 16x7, ET65... I have a set sitting in my garage (for sale too) and they are stamped right on the back of the wheel.

Wheels are measured from inside-to-inside of the tire bead lip... so you can't really measure them on the rim... although you can approximate by adding 1 inch to the rim width to get the overall width from front face to back face, so the 16x7 rim should measure about 8" across.

Yeah, but some people think they SHOULD be 7.5" considering that they wear a 225. The rear should DEFINATELY be 1/2" narrower, OR, wear a slightly wider tire, like a 255 or 265. Maybe that's why Porsche sized the 17" 968 rim/tire combo the way they did: 17x7.5- 225/45/17 & 17x9- 255/40/17- kind of evened them out. The turbo S wheels look kind of funny w/their tires- the fronts actually look okay- pretty filled out, but the rear's just don't look right...
