Your right about Florida. Had mine replaced last year and the cost to the insurance company was about $800-$900. Florida mandates free replacement of windshields by insurance companies.

If you get a a/m glass make sure it is not for a early 944 as it does not have the dam made on to it to put the glass flush with the body. look at the glass before you let the glass shop cut yours out. the dam that is attached to the glass is about 1/2 in of urethane on the perimeter at the edge on the inside.
Also there were not any late 944 glass available last few months as the glass manufactures were not producing any. some of the retailers applications show the early car part number.
also the channel that the reveal moulding snaps into should come on the proper glass. if it does not you have to use a wider one and glue it in to cover the gap.

after scouring the earth i managed to get lucky with a new, factory windshield
on ebay for short $$$ before somebody snagged it, now on the car.

I just got a quote from 2 auto glass installers in N.J and the price with installation was well under $650.00. Satellite Glass was one of the places that I looked at. I decided to keep my sand blasted windshield for now out of fear that if I put a new one in, I'd crack it the next time on the track.

It's too bad they don't make tear-offs for windshields, like they make for motorcycle helmet visors. It's a shame when a perfectly decent windshield has to be replaced because of pitting.

I just bought a new coupe windshield complete with the factory gasket on Ebay from Bartlestone Glass, a glass distributor in New Jersey. It was $489 plus $189 shipping. It is being delivered tomorrow. I bought it because the glass was original Sekurit glass that matches my factory tinted windows which is probebly the last OEM tinted windsheild available. All the new glass is green, not gray like the OEM glass. I had previously attempted to resurface the glass using a cerium oxide polishing compound and felt grinding wheel that I purchased from Eastwood. It removed the windshield wiper crazing and very minor scratches, but did not touch the pitting. I'm excited about the new windsheild and I'll post pictures when I get it tomorrow.

Recommend any parts be priced at Sunset Porsche in Oregon - as for EXCELLENCE Pricing - Cost plus 15%. They are good guys and very helpful. Needed a Radiator - they got it from the factory in three weeks and cost was $150 Less than any other quote. $300 less than my local P-Dealer and they said it would take 6 to 8 weeks. Same thing with a Water Pump for my 996 - real Porsche part for less $ and had it in two days shipped direct to my Indi Chris's.
