968 final drive ratios./gear ratios

Roger of California Motorsports could organise crown and pinion gears for the 968. Not cheap though but that was only alternative I could find.

I have the stock gears for 3,4,5,6 as I replaced with custom gearing if anyone needs them.

fixed finally
3rd to 6th short gear ratio

,big improvement on track,before only 3rd gear used for 70 % of track,
with 2nd gear to short ,3rd gear too long on several corners.
now 3rd and 4th used 60% of track and 5th gear 15% of track even used 6th gear on the long
650 m straight.
in gear 2nd to 6th acceleration much better .Lap times dropped by about 8%
, on a twisted track this would be better

rear tires 650 mm dia

Better performance than changing the FD to 4.25.Can try now even the 670 mm dia michelin
cups from the 911 GT3 without the car bogging down between gears.
Cost of gears 1,500 usd less than cost of supercharger kit which almost bought
for estimated similar effect on track.

Of course now for ultra performance ,S/C will be the next phase.

What is the driving difference between your gearset and the 4.25 FD??

If you change the final drive ratio - all gears will be changed, still an improvement, however the drop between gearshifts will still be the same. Customizing each individual gear ratio can allow you to keep the revs in the sweet spot and hence I believe it is even better. I found changing the gears my overall lap times only improved a little, however I feel I can race better since the power is on tap quicker.

you take the 155 mph 968 gearbox and expand the ring and pinion out to 198~200 miles per hour, then you've solved the entire problem. now you have the best of all worlds. that would equate to about a 3.00 rear end to properly match the LS3, cruise 65 mph at 2,000 rpm and have like a 200 mph redline @ 6,400 rpm. that's what i want.

The close ratio kit,has the new ratios between the old ratios,.
As an example the 5th gear ratio is now between the old 4th and 5th,,and is 14% faster than the std
5th ratio.The final drive ratio is still the original at 3.875.
if you go for the 4.25 the acceleration ,in theory , between the gears would be appx 9%
but thats just a theory.
I do feel that a better ratio would be the 4.to 1 as used by the 911 GT3 RS and RSR with the
670 mm dia tires.Forgot to mention that my car has the wide body conversion,and the rr inner arches have been modified to accomodate up to the 680 mm rr dia tires from the RSR.
