Default Anyone converted a 968 tip to a manual?

Anyone converted a 968 tip to a manual? What's involved? Is the flywheel, bellhousing, and TT the same on both the tip and manual? Any DME type changes required?

Every now and then I see a 968 tip advertised a substantial discount to the manuals (obviously because they are far less desirable overall), and I start wondering about the economics of a transmission conversion.

Hi Mark , you actually need a donor car ( 968 manual wreck) , the reason is that there are just too many parts needed ( small and large), the Tip gets a different torque tube , it will not match to the manual six speed and the base of the manual gear stick attaches to the manual TT, the drive shafts on the auto ( Tip) are different lengths , I think from memory you can use one ( the longer one ) on the manual , the starter motor and bell housings are different between the manual (six speed) and the Auto ( Tip), that's of course if you want to keep the dual mass flywheel (manual 968) or you will have to get 944S2 flywheel and clutch and fork and bellhousing and the rare 944 S2 optional 1.7 KW starter motor( 951 604 102 00), because the standard 1.4 KW starter( non 968) will struggle badly(both the tip and manual 968 got 1.7KW starters for good reason) .
The Tip flywheel is unique to the tip and will have to be changed , then there is the selector shaft and gear stick for the manual , clutch pedal box , clutch hydraulics , and of course the expensive manual six speed transmission itself .

Regards
BB

Yes it has been done, somewhere out there is a Guards Red cabrio that wasn't born a six speed

Probably easier to rebuild the wrecked six speed donor car than to transplant the transmission into the tiptronic car

OK -- thanks everyone for the info (particularly the detailed response from Sean). It seems the tips are priced that way because they are almost always going to stay as tips -- and everyone (well, everyone except me) realises that. But I'm slightly more edumacated now.
