Default Porsche seats

I was wondering what the largest non-power Porsche seats that will fit in a 968. I read somewhere that the 993 were, but don't know if there all power or not.

all up to 996. Sparco seats fit perfectly too with either Sparco sliders or by adding sheet metal to your stock sliders and drilling holes. not sure about 997 or Cayman seats, due to side airbag issues, but i think they fit too... the reason i am mentioning about Sparco is the Chrono Sport seats are probably the best bet for wider guys.

993 seats fit, they were factory installed in late 94 and 95 cars.
They came in many different flavors:
manual (rare)
4 way power
8 way power
12 way power
some with heat some without.
Also there were sport seats.

944 and 911 seats are also basically the same and are plug and play.

996 and boxter seats can be easily modified to fit, but are a little tall.

I seem to remember lumbar on at least one car. And early 993 sport seats are plug and play, I'm not clear on the later hardshell back version being so.

Thanks guys for the input. Sounds like there are more options than I thought. I think a manual seat is must. I'm tall and a little wide in the shoulder/back so the seat in my 968 is at a good angle to get enough headroom and just not comfortable. I'll look into the Sparco's, also if I mount Boxster seats low in the car do you think it would look out of porportion.

It would be tough to mount boxter/996 seats any lower.
You would than need to make custom rails. Probably more trouble than
it's worth. IMHO, they do not look right.
At one point I was going to buy 996 sport seats but they just look to tall
for the car.
I think you can get sparco or recaros in different widths.

What modifications are required to use 996 seats? I have a set of 996 sport seats, and a set of 996TT comfort seats, a bit different than regular 996 seats. The sport seats have only power back, while the TT seats are full power lumbar, and heat. Is there a wiring diagram or better still an adapter for the plugs I could us to adapt the power connections somewhere on Rennlist or Renntech? I have searched several times, but always came up empty.

Are any other adaptions necessary? I have the brackets, sliders etc for both. I was fairly sure I would need to redrill holes, but not sure if I had to somehow reinforce the bolts on the bottom of the car. If someone has done this already I could save a lot of time. I was planning to just pull the seats out and start from scratch this spring. I can use either pair, but would prefer to put the TT seats in the 968 and use the Sport seats for my Boxster that is getting a 3.6 upgrade from Jake Raby at flat5innovations.

The seat rail needs to be modified.
Basically you need to flatten out the front portion of the rail.
I don't rememeber if you need to drill new holes.
I don't remember any wiring changes, but that should be pretty easy to solve

If you do a search, it "should" come up.

Is there anyway to lower the stock seats? I recall sitting in my 951 and it was like I was on the floor. The 68 seems to have much higher seats. BTW I have 4 way power

my guess for the 996 seats would be to just try it... add shims and longer bolts. the system is so solid i'm sure the issues will be minimal. electronics shouldn't be much of an issue.

much apologies to anyone having to suffer viewing photos of my seats again.

i found a pristine set of 996 sports seats at L.A. Porsche for $8 k. i wanted them bad but, i ended up going with the Sparcos once the $1,750 price for the pair was determined. it was an easier decision at that price. what was required was first, removing excess steel ringlets from the sliders where the electric motors mounted... and then welding four plates onto the sliders and drilling holes (after some careful measuring). the result was a perfect fit. it saved me about 285 dollars as a result of not having to buy sliders from Sparco.

if you notice my dash, when i took this photo i was in the process of adding a bezel and ring set, originally from Porscheshop (i paid 55 dollars for the bezel and rings on ebay)... and frontlighting my dash with four violet/blue leds. the result is really good. i'll be installing my 997 T cf shift **** soon and then doing an updated stereo...
