I found a good deal on Mobil 1 at Wal-mart 5qts for $21.00 they had many different weights. Most prices I have found are between 8 and 9 dollars a quart.

They also carry other brands as well

Disclamier: I wish I had some investment/involvement with Wal-mart but sadly just a satisfied cutomer

Was what you picked up PAO (Group IV) or hydrocracked (Group III)? From what I've been lead to believe is that Walmart only carries hydrocracked which is how they're keeping the price down. I have heard some people claim that they're still finding PAO at that price in certain weights.

I just looked and relooked at the labels and could not find any indication of either? I purchased 15w50 for the the turbo and 5w30 for another vehicle.

I have switched to Motul 300 because Mobil 1 isn't what it used to be

X2....I had serious lifter noises when I tried to use anything less than a 10W40 ...I just run dino 20W50 year round here in Vegas, and it always looks new when I change it every 5K.

Like I said above/previously I could find no difference in the labels from the Wal-mart to older bottle labels that I had purchased earlier?

I wonder if the Syntec is hydrocracked?,lol

Running German LIQUID MOLY 10-60 racing oil for motorcycles,
lifter and variocam proplems, thing of the past, in 968.
As they are good to 15,000 rpm.
Old racing and rally trick for few more HP at the end and better accel.
same cost as the M1
The local Porsche dealer insists of using 0-40 MOBIL 1, with disastrous consequences , to a lot of porsche owners, who have a bit of fun , during our summer here.

If you bought Mobil 1 EP (Extended Performance), it is a Group III oil. The regular M1 is PAO - at least for the moment. I suspect that will change soon too.

EU spec Castrol Syntec is Group IV - at least last time I checked.

There are better oils out there though. With the recent formulation upheaval at Mobil, I'm inclined to avoid their products.

At least I'm not the only one who's shied from Mobil. But, at ~$4/qt, it's still a good deal.

my doctor says i should stop eating pizza as it will further clog my arteries...

my porsche doctor says to run regular oil and not to fuss over synthetic oil for the variocam engine... i run Valvoline 10W-40... Should I be running something else ? any thoughts about oil treatments, restore, moly oil treatments, 3M, and what about that crap that they show at the auto supply stores, the stuff thats inside that plastic case w/ the crank that turns the gears... looks pretty cool.

does any of this crap work ?
