Just installed an ASG 5 spd in the 968
Just an FYI for those who may be interested.
About 6 months ago I bought this tranny off of eBay for my track car. It has the short 5th gear.
So it was a direct bolt in, with the exception of 1 shorter (944) axle, a 3/8 x 3" bolt, nut and 2 washers, and the shifter linkage.
The only real challenge has been the shifter linkage. the 944 tranny has a small hole in the inner shaft, were as the 968's inner shaft has a hole tapped for the bolt. So I had to drill out and tap the hole. Unfortunately, the hole is not in the correct position. I currently only have 1, 3 and 5 gears. So I will have to probably weld the hole shut, then drill and tap in the correct location.
I was pretty impressed during the test drive though. It seams to have better gearing for performance driving.

although no LSD, has great gear ratios.

I finally got around to installing a short 5th in my track car (AOT - 944S2 trans) this weekend. I was sick and tired of hitting overdrive on long straights, looking forward to trying out the new gearing in a few weeks.
