Tiptronic motor mounts

Tiptronic motor mounts
A couple of years ago, while doing some other work on my cab, I threw in a new set of motor mounts (Porsche mounts for a 6 speed 968, not the aftermarket ones). They looked identical to the motor mounts that came out, altho the part number varied slightly (last two digits were 04 instead of 07 as listed for the tip), so I didn't think too much about it as I was in a hurry and no one aside from Porsche in Germany carried the correct ones. Got done and wasn't overly happy, as the car seemed to have a bit more motor vibration than before, but I chalked it up to a combination of reasons (biggest reason was me being too fussy).
It bothered me enough that I went ahead and sourced the OEM's at HUGE expense (about $700 for the correct part from the factory), but never got around to installing them until today.
Installing motor mounts aren't a particularly fun job, but its not a "terrible" job, so after rebuilding the front calipers and doing some misc stuff yesterday, I figured I might as well install the mounts. I had the old (well, they had 4k miles on them) mounts out in about an hour and compared them to the new ones. Crap! They looked identical. I mean, EXACTLY like the ones I was about to put in, so I was a bit grumpy during the reinstalltion process. I had zero expectations that the car would ride/feel differently.
Wrong.
I have no idea how these mounts could make a difference, but wow... its like a brand new car. All the vibration at idle is completely gone.
If you have a tip equipped 968, I would STRONGLY suggest you get your motor mounts (part # ending in 07) from Porsche. It really does make that big a difference.
Regards,

Not for sale, I am going to reuse them in my 951 at some future time. Normally, I'd pitch them, even with low mileage, but these looked *very* clean and showed no signs of wear at all.

Please re-read my original post, the answers are there already.
Bottom line is that, at least in my experience, I would absolutely make sure you got the 07 mounts if you have a tiptronic. The 04's do not look different but they definitely had more vibration.

I had the same experience, Indy Mechanic put in the 04 units. I drove the car about 4000 miles and read about the 07 Tip specific units and contacted Sunset to confirm the difference in part numbers and ordered from Sunset at a Much lower price back a few years ago. There is very clearly a difference in the smoothness of the engine and I assume that it is the viscosity of the fluid in the the mount that is tuned to the engine, so the external appearance is the same.
PS anyone want the 04 units??? ... they are still sitting in a box in the garage.
