I had a 914, a '69 Olds 442, then drove a Honda Interceptor before buying a 951. I sold the 951 when I moved to the U.S.and found my current 968.

Sounds like everyone's had a few interesting cars before now!

I myself had an 85.1 first. It was red on brown and tan. I changed the brown parts to black, resprayed with new red, and restored the black Fuchs. Then before I sold it I bought my current '95, also red. Then I sold the '85.1. Then my mom bought the '93.

Having never owned a late 944, everything about the 968 seems like an update to me. The interior, the suspension, etc. But I can still clearly see the resemblence and feel the evolution. Every time I jump from the 968 to the 944 I appreciate the 944's lightness and connection with the road, while missing the power and AC of the 968. When I jump back into the 968, I miss the 944 but I just never get tired of looking out at those humped fenders.

i owned a few front engine POrsches inlcuding my current '95 968, an '88 951 which i'm slowly building with a buddy of mine, & an '87 944 8V which was a custom ordered car with lots of factory goodies/options. These are all play/project cars. I also had several none Porsche toys including an E30 M3 & VW Corrado SLC VR6.

My DD is an Audi A6 4.2 which replaced an Acura TL 6MT.

I had an '87 944 all black. This was my first Porsche and a dream for 10 years. I used it as my daily driver, had it for 8 years and put 70k miles on it before I sold it with 190k. I basically rebuilt this whole car, front to back, top to bottom. Loved it but got tired of working on it all the time. I also had purchased an '03 Boxster new, and it was just so much nicer to drive.

Then I bought the 968 as a street legal track car. My track times have been fast in the 968 than in the Boxster.

We're going to have to get together sometime - I am only an hour up the turnpike from Allentown. Hershey perhaps?

I never had 944 though I had (have) a 924 n/a before the 968.
Big difference; the 968 is of course much more refined but there is something special about an old car. Something even horse power and cup holders just can't over come.

Owned a '89 944 n/a, auto. I don't recommend an auto, but it landed in my lap. Served me well though, sold it at 200K miles for $3K.
'94 968 6-spd was definately a move up in the world.

Owned a 1985.5 for 8 years. Red with camel seats (of course). Great sports car for the time. Put about 150K on it. Nill maintenance issues, though clutch went out once. When I saw the polar silver 968 with navy blue interior, I had to have it.

Had an Alpine White 89 944S2 before the 968. A great car that I sold after three years of ownership for the same price I originally paid! It had the same 3.0 of the 968, but the Variocam makes such a difference in power. And while the S2 was nice, the 968 is just screwed together better, more solid. It also still looks contemporary at 16.

It's always nice to sell for the same as you paid. It's like, the maintenance was the cost of rental!

I have an 88 924s and am looking to move up to an 89 951 or a 968. Sounds like everyone really loves both cars. Is there anything definitive about the 968 that elevates it above the 951?

RELIABILITY.

... and better resale value, exclusivity, different looks (love or hate), comes stock with all the "968 goodies" like brake cooling ducts, rear wing, teardrop mirrors and door handles, 6-speed gearbox, easy clutch changes, good looking engine. Really, the only reason to get a 951 is if you want to have more than 260hp and you're willing to sacrifice all of the above.
