Default gauge cluster question

Is the 968 gauge cluster the same as the 944?

Assuming you're refering to the 85.5+ n/a, not exactly but pretty close. There are subtle differences w/ 968 gauges like the 180mph speedometer, different tachometer redline, and no MPG gauge. Could've been other slight changes as well but don't know off the top of my head.

It's physical size more than anything, but I'm about to discover any differences first hand and will post results.

The "font" and size/shape of the tick marks are different in the speedo and tach, but I think the other two gauges look the same. 968s had OBD1 and airbags (among other crap) so the left/right gauges have all the hidden warning lights. Obviously the cluster plugs will be different for all these lights to work, but I think a 968 cluster could be put into a 944.

Thanks everybody. The question arose when I was looking at white face dials. I'm bringing the 968 up from the USA and the speedo reads miles and I really wanted the metrics as the dominant size. I was pretty sure the size are the same. In any case i bought the dial faces from a 'lister' so I will reply back once i put it all together. BTW I did the gauge lighting fix on the 944 and that worked out real well so thats going to happen on the 968 as well.

^^That's a good idea. I may have to follow in your footsteps when I get there.
