Sadly I have never heard either of those cars, and I hope to. I love 4-cylinder engines and given the choice I would stick with one over a v8 from every perspective, except sound. I'm not exactly a 928... fan. But I will gladly grant that the 928 engine is one of the best sounding engines created. I mean, auralgasm.

One thing that really kills it for me as far as the 968's sound is the belt whine. Many people delete BSs because of the risk of belt breakage or for 1 extra hp, but I have considered deleting it to eliminate the sound (less risk of belt damage is just a bonus). I have found the intake sound of the car actually sounds really good though once you open it up - let's not get OT talking about that though.

Sound clips or video of ITB Alfa or 924 GTP would be appreciated so I can determine if all 4 cylinder engines really do sound like ****.

Arash, I actually don't mind a little belt whine because I had people ask if my last 968 was supercharged lol! But moderate to heavy belt whine sounds nasty...

I'm right there with you guys. Growing up with the sounds of my dads 1750 Berlina and 2000 Spider was/is great.

This is an exhaust thread and now we're talking about intake sounds. I think a 4-cyl with open intake is orgasmic - I just can't stop revving it when I take it out to put it through its paces. The roar comes loud and clear from the intake and it sings to my soul. But as far as just the exhaust sound, I think the best you can do with a 944/968 is something raspy and raw that connotes power and uncompromise. But it still lacks rumble, burble, and purpose.

The 928's song is sung through the exhaust, and it's no opera, more like a chorus of pissed off bears chasing the last salmon on earth down a river bank made of painful liquid hot magma burning their paws. The best we can do is the sound of a prehistoric giant bumblebee flying through a cave.

Sounds good. I'd love to hear a stock muffler with no resonator but nobody does that.
