Default 968 Clubsport seat Q

Hi all.

I have an opportunity to buy a 968CS seat. Unfortunately it's only one seat. The part number is: 944.521.004.60. According to a recent thread, this is the passenger side recaro bucket seat. Is there a difference between the passenger and the drivers side apart from the sliders? I can't see any visual difference. The seat is wrapped in black nomex and has the hardback painted yellow from factory. It also has a whole underneath for the 5 point harness.

Anyone interested in this? Is it worth buying?

If it is in good condition and reasonably priced, I'd buy it no matter what. They are rare and coveted seats to say the least, especially here in the states.

That's what I thought as well, given that they are factory seats and out of production. I can't see why you shouldn't be able to use it as a drivers seat. It's a big minus though that it's only one seat.. What do you recon a seat like that would be worth (ballpark)?

Thanks for the help.

Here is a picture (borrowed from internet) of how the seat looks:

Note the lack of armrest cubby in the CS, replaced by the lighter coin tray.

Not sure what it would be worth as they don't come up too often for price comparison.

New Recaro pole positions are, I think, less than $700 for cloth. Of course, the pole position is not an exact duplicate of the 968CS seat.

I would imagine a single, passenger's side 968CS seat, in good condition, to be around $1250 to $1500 or so???? Seriously just a guess.

Given that it is the passenger's seat, perhaps you can negotiate a good price?

I have 968 CS seats in my 951. I once took the driver's seat off its rails and could not notice any detail that would have suggested it to be any different to the passenger seat.

Thom: Thanks, exactly my thinking, I could see any differences either..

Biotechee: Thanks for the estimation. That would be my guess too. The RS seats are very valuable, they sell for 4K+ for the pair. These are very similar and very rare. They have got to be worth more than the mass-produced standard Recaro PPs.. This would make a perfect seat for a track car, given that it is Porsche OEM and that it has the sub belt strap hole from the factory. And Nomex provides great grip to boot. Ideal for someone with a Speed Yellow car ofcourse

Here in the UK a set including runners will go for around £1000, perhaps plus or minus £200 depending on time of year/demand/condition etc.

I personally cannot see the point of buying one - unless you fit the seat well and you only need one. Alot of people say they are uncomfortable, others (including myself) love them. In other words, find seat(s) that fit yourbody - you can spend a lot of time sat in one. A friend of mine sold his because he is quite stocky, and the front side corners were digging into his legs. Also consider that if you are using harnesses, the shoulder holes can be too low for some. The seats themselves are also quite high off the floor - especially compared to the comfort/sport seats - biggest gripe i have about them. The way the subframe is made up dictates this - not found a solution around this other than bolting straiight to floor.

I do not know huge amounts about these seats (my CS came with them as standard), but there are different varieties. Even in the 968 CS i have seen two types, one with a thicker padded seat cushion and one like mine, with an elasticated/webbing base than clips in at four points on each side, with a thinner seat cushion. The elasticated/webbing base unclips out quite easily for when i am on track (more helmet room ). I think this type might be the same as the 993RS. Also seen them with and without factory holes for harness crotch straps.

Oh - and mine have been out quite a few times for a variety of reasons, i am quite sure that they are swapped over from when i bought the car, not noticed any difference re left/right.

Probably no difference in the seat itself

Maybe just the position of the forth/aft adjustment lever

Ok thanks for the info . I've also heard there are two variants, one called the "CUP seat" and one called the 968CS seat. I dunno about the difference but it's probably in the cushion. I know the particular one I am looking at has the sub belt strap hole in it from the factory, which is good if you are looking to use a 5pt. harness.

JP, are you sure about the pricing? It seems very defensive if you ask me?

£1000 for the pair?? That's even cheaper than the standard pole positions.. Sounds strange.. I would have guessed 2k+ for a nice set..

I'm beginning to think I am too large for these seats. Might have to go for a Recaro SPG XL instead.

If using a passenger seat for the driver's seat won't the seat belt receptacle be on the wrong side?

It's easy to change.
