A sunny Sunday, but ended almost before we started! The principle of adding a second battery was judicious, except that the information to the control center coming from the alternator indicated "out of service" and therefore, the engine ran from the start in degraded mode without exceeding 4500 rpm !! Tower of heating ... start launched and return to the stand .......

But the meal of 13h caught with the new "pals" quickly erased the disappointment of having missed this second round.
Back home ... the days to come will happen to disassemble this alternator and replace it ..... DIJON is in 4 weeks !!!!

After the free practice, qualifying with a re-classification of the 968 in the upper class: the GT2C !!!! Maybe a form of "balance of performance" as is done in GT Tour ???? Or even simpler, some in GT3C have raised their feet to the qualifiers !!!!

13:50 on Sunday, it was Race 1. I leave in the middle of the "big" and DELANNOY with his Cup makes the inside in the first left and will remain in front. I know then that I am 2nd of the GTC3 and I watch my retros to keep away BURNICHON and his big Z3 and FAURIE on his 964 Cup. Alas, the alternator declares forfeit and I finish in degraded mode 11th in the general and 4th in the GTC3 ..... BUT, on reading the official sheet, I see myself classified in GTC2 and in the 3rd place !!!!

12h20 Sunday, race n ° 2 !!! And it is to the stroller that our 968 arrives in pre-grid !!! It is necessary to save the "juice" and for this, a 2nd battery has been installed. But alas, it did not thwart the vigilance of the control center which had always the code "fault of alternator" and which kept the ignition in "degraded" mode ....... Heater and ... back to the paddock !!

We can close Le Castellet and pass on the repairs to come to be ready to race for Dijon the 5/6/7 May next !!!
So a little mechanics .... under cover, under the porch of the house. We put on candles the front of the Auto,

We prepare a cozy bed for the mechanic that I am

And disassembling the flat bottom, disassembling the alternator !! 40mn shows in hand !!!

Must find the same model for a new purchase and a repairman for the current one. There will always be one available !!!!

The tensioner mounting is cracked !!!

I had already done this part of mechanics at the Castellet to test the alternator and while I was under the car, I got drops of coolant ??? After a lot of trial and error, we finally saw the origin of the micro-leak: a collar that had pierced the sheath !!
Oreca had his store rolling and two elbows later, everything was fixed !!! And in passing, I reviewed the positioning of the oil hose that relied on that of water and that had started on 2mn the silicone! Phew! a bad for a good !!

Before repair

New hoses and positions

To be continued............

While waiting for the arrival of the alternator, a little glance at my new category: La GTC2 !!! And an imagery focus of colleagues with whom I will have to battle to make my results throughout this Classic 2017 GT.
The ranking after the Castellet test being published, it is interesting to put a picture on the contenders !!! Four brands are currently in the running: Porsche, BMW, TVR, Ventury

1st crew GARRET / DOS SANTOS on Porsche 964 RSR n ° 30

2nd BURNICHON on BMW Z3 GT n ° 111

3rd DELANNOY on Porsche 964 Cup 3.8 n ° 18

4th Myself on Porsche 968 Turbo RS n ° 968

5th LABERTY on TVR Tuscan Challenge Rover n ° 101

6éme ROCHER on Ventury Trophy n ° 42

7th MATHIEU on Porsche 964 RSR n ° 84

Meanwhile this damn alternator that has just landed on Paris (Sacramento sent !!), some small works on the car
Displacement and isolation of the oil pressure wiring harness rubbing on the block

Brake / accelerator pedal assembly to facilitate heel-point

Positioning and fixing a relay that was just placed in the electric box and held by its wiring!

Construction of a power supply line for the auxiliary starter battery. This will save the "small battery" of 20A in the stands and at the workshop.

Re-sealing the air flow between the oil coolers and the flat bottom (You can lose 15/20% efficiency on the cooling by this leakage of the air pass !!)

Repositioning and attachment of a waste gate control hose
The exhaust !! Fortunately this hose had a "High temperature" insulation !!!

Nothing extraordinary but just avoid the little trouble in running !!!!

A crazy day in rebound !!!! Departure at 7am for Aix les Milles; 8:30 am the 968 got off the trailer and that's where it all starts !!! Thomas Delord who was guiding me to put the car on the power dyno notices a leak sound on the exhaust !! We open the hood, and verdict without appeal, the turbo flange exhaust lets pass gas !!! Direction the pit and disassembly of this damned turbo starts and all the bad surprises have been given RdV !!! 3 screws on 4 sheared in the body of the turbo;

A starter cable had begun to lose its insulation due to its position too close to the exhaust. In short, it took all the know-how and a huge patience of the team to remedy all this: to remove the screws sheared from the body of the turbo, to re-tap, to find the good studs, then to redo a part of the starter harness. ......

To make the thermal insulation of the inputs / outputs of turbo ... and all to go up ..... one takes advantage to do the draining and to change the belt of the oil pump, put the flat bottom and 19h30 ... contact. .. engine ... it turns !!
So, tomorrow afternoon the car will pass its tests of power to the dyno and will have its geometry and its weighing !!! So it will be good for a start Thursday morning for Dijon
