HELP HELP HELP !!! (DEAD FUEL PUMPS)
Sorry for the repost
I need help.
Can somebody please tell my why 4 pumps would go out on a car in 2 weeks.
They are apporx. 336.00 a piece and I need to resolve this...I can not keep spending almost 400 bucks a pop.
Everything seems to be in spec and the tank is clean.
Will a bad ground cause the pump to fry.

Are you shure that the pumps are dead? Did you tested the pumps outsidse the car? Simply, connect the pump directly to the battery. How do you know that the pumps are damaged and not an intermitent electrical problem?

Two new DME relays.
Two new DME relays.
By the way...will a DME kill a pump?
Bench tested each pump out of the car prior to install and after install/failure. No workie after failure.
Pressure regulator changed. Filter Changed (correct orientation). New check valves with each new pump. All OEM pumps.
Had a pressure gauge hooked up and all pressures are within spec. Key One/Idle/Acceleration/20 min. after key off.
By the way the first new pump ran for two days and approx. 75 miles before failing.
The pumps are DEAD. Just need to know if a loose or bad ground would cause one to fry after 30 min. of running.
Also...can anybody lead me to a diagram of the grounding locations (9 locations).
Thanks,
D

A pump can fail mechanically or electrically. Can you check the ohms reading of the pump motor windage of all the 4 pumps? You can do this easilly using a multimeter. Let me know the redings. I'll check in the factory workshop manuals for the correct value.

Mystery Solved
What was killing the fuel pumps was plastic pieces from the sending unit. It was damaged somehow and the sock filter had several holes in it. I will post some pictures as soon as I can.
The pieces of plastic never showed up in the fuel samples we took...but when the pump would create a vacume...whamo...it would quit due to debris.
Replaced the sending unit, sock filter, pump (4 times) and fuel filter.
I am placing an additional small filter inline between the tank and the fuel pump for safety.
1,100 dollars later and problem solved.
