Exclamation NEED HELP Please - Cost to replace 92 Tip Cab in Canada!!

Hey everyone,

Lost my '92 Tip Cab due to an accident last week and now the insurance company has made me an offer to replace it - $15,700 CDN.

I know their game is to lowball me and hope I take it, so I said "no way" and told them I would build a case myself to support the true replacement value. If that doesn't work, off we go to arbitration.

I would expect my car to have sold for ~$22k if I had it on the market right now in my area (condition explained below).

I realize this is not an easy thing to do as prices range dramatically on these cars depending on condition, kilometers, etc. I also realize that I cannot necessarily use US prices as the value between a car in the US and a car in Canada cannot be fairly determined just by adjusting for the currency exchange rate. Because there are so few 968's in Canada, they command a much higher price.

I'm trying to take a "mostly Canadian" approach by looking at past and current 92-95 tip/cab sales in Canada. I may have to also include coupe sales and then attempt to calculate the price differential between the coupe and cab to show some history, i.e. finding 4 coupe sales in Canada for an average of $18k and then showing that cabs typically command a $3k premium would suggest a possible value of my cab closer to $21k.

If you know of or can find any 968's either sold or for sale in Canada, please let me know. I have done all of the current Craigslist searches so I've got all of those. Anything else you know of or can dig up would be much appreciated!!

I can be reached at huskey@telus.net or if you want to call me, 604-834-3124.

My car is (was?) black with light grey/black interior, 63,000 miles (US car), no special options, a "9" inside and an "8" out. Everything worked perfectly on the car, ran and drove perfectly, no dents or dings, paint was good but had minor blemishes here and there (tough to see but I'm a perfectionist), top and rear window were perfect.

New top / mechanics in '03, seats recovered as factory new in '04. I just spent $5k on FULL mechanical service of everything on the car. It ran & drove like a new car. Just spent another $3k in the last two months on lots of little extras (new Kumhos's, upgrade headlights, aluminum sills, stereo & speakers, perf chip, etc.).

I provided $8k in recent receipts to the insurance company adjustor. I know I'll never get everything back that I put into her but I should be able to get ~20k.

Any help/advice would be appreciated......thanks guys!

Tell them to find you a car like you had for that money and then have them buy it for you. That is what I did the last time I went through it. They found a similar condition car for a figure in between what they wanted to pay and what I wanted them to pay and shipped it cross country to me. We both came out happy.

Good luck proving your numbers as 968 sales are low in number in the states and I imagine even lower in Canada.

Tom R went through a similar process with a 944-you may want to do a search on the main waterpumper board here and check out how he dealt with his insurance company.
