Send a PM to jlturpin - I believe he knows about carpet dye.
My take is that dye is good to bring the original color back, but not do a complete color change.
BTW, did anyone ever figure out what the OEM carpet actually is? I bought the Feintuft carpet set from World Upholstery and it's nothing like the factory carpet. FTV is a very dense, short nap wool carpet that cannot be heat shaped. It is fairly difficult to work with and is best suited for flat surfaces. It looks and feels incredible though - I'd carpet my house with the stuff, but it's about $100/yd. It makes my Lloyd Ultimats look like cheap crap in comparison. The OEM carpet is closer to the Lloyd mats than it is to FTV.

The carpet dye that TOL sells will do a complete room change, especially in black. It's used by numerous pro detailers. AQ personal friend did an entire room, in his house, with it.
