Default Flywheel lock

We tried to torque the flywheel bolt tonight holding the drivetrain with the brakes. Got up to about 120 ft/lb before we ran out of room to pull the torque wrench. I can't believe how much you can turn the engine with the wheels locked, must have got 90 degrees of twist. Just couldn't get to 155 ft/lbs.

Looks like I need a flywheel lock. I have one for the 928 and the 944, but of course the 968 is different. Anyone have a 968 flywheel lock I could borrow? I'll return it the day after I get it, I promise!

Wow, that is some paint job on your 928S.

I used a thick screwdriver and wedged it into the flywheel teeth through the starter opening. I was under the car with the screwdriver, and my brother turned the wrench on the crank bolt... worked like a charm.

Yes, I wanted it to stand out on the track, and it does :-)

That doesn't work on the 928 so we didn't try it, but the 928 is more like 300 ft/lb. Since it worked for you it's worth a shot, I'd really like to start this pup today!

Thanks,

Have you asked over on 968forums or 968.net? There are a couple of guys in New England that hang out there.

Screwdriver worked wonders. Wasn't even an effort to hold the flywheel for 155 ft/lbs of torque. Thanks for the replies, guys!

Glad to hear it got you goin. A screwdriver wedges in there nicely with little or no room to slip out.
