OT - '77 911 speedo sending unit
A little off-topic for us 968 folks, but I need some 911 help.
Where's the speedo sending unit on a 77 911? Found the plug for it, but nothing to plug into. Can anyone tell me where it's located?
Thanks in advance,
Buzz

Buzz,
Do you have a electrical connector on the gear box or is the plug you are talking about attached to wiring (attached to the car), i was thinking that it should be a mechanical drive not an electrical pick up, but i could be wrong,

I have the wire pair coming thru the tunnel and ending in a two prong receptacle made of plastic with clips to hold it on to something. I just can't find the something. The original spot on the tranny for the mechanical speedo drive has been plugged at the factory. I've looked down both sides on the tranny and can't find anywhere to plug my plug. Also felt around on top, but nothing. Thanks a bunch
Thanks for the help.

I'm not familiar with 911's but a quick look at the parts book shows that you should have a sender fitted in the gearbox with wires attached to the sender (2 wire).
Looks like it is just near a drive-shaft and it fits into a hole in the box, is held in with a metal wire clip and bolt.
Sorry can't be any more use, but hopefully some help.

Got it fingered out. What I was holding was not just a plug, it was the speedo sending unit. It just pushes into a pocket on the PASSENGER side just above the drive shaft. Must be a magnet inside the case that spins past and counts the wheel revs. Thanks for your help
