Default Vario Cam Special Tool

I'm almost ready to set the cam timing on the '92 968, but I need a special Porsche tool to activate the tensioner. This is the little air fitting that replaces the oil feed tube on top of the tensioner. Does anyone have one I could borrow for a couple of weeks?

Barring that, is there another way to fully activate the tensioner for this procedure?

Thanks,

Where can these tools be purchased? About how much? Would the same tool work on the 928 as well as the 968? Anyone know?

Thanks,

Harvey

It's a variocam thing Harvey, not needed on the 928.

Not sure where to get it, but my mechanic just bought one too. They feel it's essential to "getting the timing right". I should know more if I ever get the car back

Yup, sounds kinda tricky. One needs to ensure the right lift on both intake/exhaust at the same time. These cars seem to be sensitive to perfect timing in order to produce perfect power output.

I hope the seat-of-the-pants dyno can tell the difference. 'Course, after spending the last few weeks driving a 115hp econocar, the porky 968 will feel like a bloody rocket!

I'm sorry. I was thinking about the gizmo that bolts on to hold the cams in place while you work in that area. I'm worried that if the cams snap out of place, I'd never get them back into correct timing.

You need to replace variocam oil pressure tube with this and have a steady pressure of 3bar to adjust cams properly.
Pete

It's $58 from Porsche. It won't exactly break the bank, but I'd like to find one to borrow if I can.
