Rich;

I think you got your answer already but I'll add my 2 cents. The 968 did not have a p/s delete option in the US. My car has no power steering and I don't mind it when moving but it's a bear when going real slow. I know another very experienced and accomlished driver who races Rothman 944'S and recently built a 968 to Fire Hawk spec's. He included p/s because the ease in which it allows for easier car placement on the track. He recommended I put it back in and not sweat the minimal hp loss. At this point I'm use to no p/s but I would like to compare the 2 setups on the track.

Joe,

I like not having the p/s because it's one more thing I don't have to worry about. I also like the feedback I get from the steering wheel, too.

I agree that the hp gain is probably insignificant; but, I wasn't trying to get the extra hp...I was trying to simplify things. Nothing to overheat, nothing to leak. Fewer things to break.

For this reason I like the delete.

Jason;

I like the feel as well but I would like to drive another track prepped 968 with p/s still in place. I need to get additional info to see if the p/s rack he was referring to was stock. He was admant that he drives better with the p/s and based on his lap times at LR, WG and others, he knows about car placement.

He's probably just a better driver than me...

Of course, it's always nice to have an excuse in case somebody asks!

By the way, I forgot to ask you what wheels/sizes are you using? I'll be looking for new wheels over the winter and would like to start gathering information.

Best,

Jason

Jason;

The wheels are Forgeline's; RS 17x8 up front and 17x9 on the back. I ran Hoosier R3SO4's; 245/40 and 275/40. Had problem with early lot of the SO4's but Hoosier was great and replaced them. I had no problems with the newer lot but did run plenty of negative camber in the rear. The new SO5's are out and they supposedly have the wear pattern of the SO3's but the adhesion characteristics of the SO4's.
