Default 968 Tip one time vibration

I pulled my 968 tip into the driveway, while stopped in drive a terrible vibration in the engine developed. When I put the car in reverse the vibration went away. Took it around the block and no problems. Do you think it's the motor mount. The car has 32,000 mile new belts. I though about the flex plate, but I assume when they go the vibration is continuous. I'd like to try and replace the mount myself if that'a the culprit.

thanks for the help!

Bill

How long did it run in that condition? Just momentarily and then it went away, or did it run that way for more than a few seconds?

Scott, the vibration lasted until I put it in reverse. Then it was gone. I just hope it's not the dredded flex plate problem.

Probably not, unless your car also sounded like a diesel truck at the same time. Plus, if the flex plate is shot, it won't magically repair itself, you'd still have the problem. I'm thinking it was fuel related, but thats strictly a guess. Without more facts, its kind of tough to say.

Thanks Scott. After thinking about it for a whlie, I think you're right it must be engine related fuel, a blip in the DME etc. I took it to work this morning with no issues.

I have to say it again, if I lived in KC I would love to be a member of the KC wrenchers!

the flex plate is metal and is what the torque converter attaches to at the rear of the torque tube.

at the front of the torque tube (where the clutch would be on a manual) is the rubber damper that will make a clunking noise when it goes

my question...is the bell housing the same for the 968 tip v the 6 speed?

if yes, and has the same 'clutch cover plate', then changing the rubber damper should be fairly easy
