FWIW-My windshield looked like it lived in a paint stripping booth. Lots of micro scratches. My new windshield is for a convertable-it have the radio antenna built into the glass.
If I remember correctly cost about $800 from nearest Classic Porsche dealer. They een delivered it to the installers shop, about 20 miles away, for free.

I thought the cabrio windshield was shorter, maybe you can validate that as my dim memory is that you drive a coupe.
My cab windscreen is 26.75" / 680mm from the bare edge of the lower glass to the top of the rubber gasket, measured at the rear view mirror.

There is coupe antenna glass available as well:

Coupe
944 541 011 13 Clear with Ant £603.26
944 541 011 12 Tinted With Ant £603.26
944 541 011 14 Green Top Tint / Band with Ant £591.98
Cab
941 541 011 10 Tinted With Ant £443.36
941 541 011 11 Clear With Ant £467.94

Just curious, are the non-antenna glass ones available also? I had my windshield replaced a long time ago, before 2000, and the dealer told me at that time the one without the antenna was already NLA. Of course this is the same dealer (no longer in business) that when I told them my voltmeter was always pegged when on, told me "oh they all do that", so clearly they were not honest and may have just told me the windshield was NLA because they put the wrong one in and didn't want to fess up and correct it! Hence my curiosity!

My Classic Porsche Dealer said that it was the only type available. I did not know that there were also Coupe windshields with the built in antenna.
Anyway, it fits great and that is all that maters to me.

Worse comes to worse, you can find a new (to you) dashboard and have it installed. I have one. And it's black!

In all seriousness, based on what others have said, you should be able to get right for no more than $5k with a new airbag module, install, and new windshield. Only claim the windshield when you talk to your insurance so they don't try and total the car (my guess is $20k would total it).

Interested in a Range Rover style windscreen with invisible defroster wires inside?

They're definitely inexpensive and potentially get a discount on a group buy.

Couple thoughts, If you want to properly delete both airbags there is a Porsche part for that and it came in the club sports and non airbag cars. 928-612-220-00 Look it up $50 or so, it installs under the glovebox where the airbag harness plugs into the DME. Will probably even turn the lights out too but cant say for sure. You can buy a used airbag module, I have a few in my garage but in that case you probably should get a shop with a Bosch Hammer to perhaps lookup what set the airbag off, cant say for sure but suspect there will be a bread crumb trail from the airbag module but the Hammer is probably the only tool that can get deep enough info. I also have a few used passenger airbags to replace your deployed one...dont need to replace dash as someone has suggested...this is designed to pop out like this and be replaced. Its a shame the windshields get broken upon deployment. Cab windshields are clearly different and just because it has a wire in it does not make it a cab windshield as they would not fit in a coupe. Nearly all 944 coupes came with the wire in glass and thats why they are so plentiful.
If it were me I would put the airbag plug in and keep driving, while your at it trash that horrible looking airbag steering wheel IMHO and get a non airbag steering wheel 968CS if you can afford it, many others available too for cheaper. Good luck getting back on the road.

I am in CT also and may have an airbag module for you unless you are planning on disabling the system per above. Its a guess but perhaps an impact (crash) sensor corroded or the wires going to it got mouse eaten and crossed. Be happy to look at it but am not a certified mechanic. Your insurance should pay for safelite or whomever to replace the windshield. Watch them do it and if they fail to apply pinchweld primer stop them and make them do it.

I'm with both John and "zak": remove the passenger airbag and se-seat the cover, get the disabler for the warning lights, get a Momo steering wheel (get a 370mm one you will not like the 350mm), and when it's all said and done, buy me a beer and I'll use my Durametric to extinguish the airbag light (Middletown).

And get a free windshield replacement from your insurance company.

Sorted.

I wouldn;t necessarily tell them it was due to an airbag deployment as that airbag deployment could end up on your carfax. So glad my 1992 had its entire body harness replaced a couple years before i bought it with new Porsche part.

I am conservative on these things, but wouldn’t be comfortable with potential denied insurance claims, other liabilities deleting an airbag on a street car. So sorry to hear this happened, it sounds like a full restoration is well less than you initially thought.

Curious about the shop that quoted you $20k? That’s stay away pricing, My CS obviously doesn’t have airbags, nd the original airbag steering wheel on my 993 was replaced by the previous owner with an RS wheel. Personally, I have absolutely no qualms driving decades old cars without airbags. Also, I doubt any insurance company looks closely enough at any of these cars, considering market value….to determine if all OEM airbags are still installed, and functional.

Considering the age of these cars, these old airbags and controllers should be seen as a liability.

There’s a shop in Lee, Mass that specializes in 968’s, and should likewise be considered for looking at the car.

Depending on the overall condition of the car, your history of ownership with it…it may be worth whatever it takes to repair. If you do go the insurance route, here in NY…if the insurance company totals the vehicle, you have the right to buy it back at a % of that amount. Branded title(if applicable aside), document the condition with photos, and save all repair estimates. Many cars get totaled, and can be repaired for a fraction of the estimate.

It isn’t insurance fraud that way.

Good luck.

I'm with Magdaddy on the airbags. I seriously doubt any insurance company will care.

But be careful on totaled cars here in CT. The titles are changed to "SALVAGE" and they're no longer legal to be on the road. To get the car back on the road takes a lot of effort to make the car 100% original, along with a detailed State Trooper inspection.

I've not done one myself but I'm told from a close friend that it is a major PAIN IN THE ***. I got hit by a bus in my GTI last Fall and I worked HARD with the adjuster to not total it. I basically told him "give me $1 under total value and I'll deal with repairing it myself". He agreed.

GregAmy spoke very well about the car's future. Only thing to add is that many insurance companies will not insure a car with a "salvage" title.

However, my biggest concern is that if you are ever in a bad collision with injuries, no airbag may void your entire policy. Insurance companies love to wiggle out from claims.
Otherwise, my car have the CS steering wheel.
But, I guess at that point you have bigger issues to worry about?

Keep in touch with Sierra Madre Porsche parts and potentially other classic dealers. They recently released complete replacement dashes for early 944.

History shows Classic will start to release other later model dashes and parts for older 944 & 968 & S/CS
