I had the battery out and on a charger/maintainer during the snows but yesterday was nice—so put the battery back in and went for a drive. Something I've noticed before and just shrugged my shoulders about was the fact that the only drain for the battery area is at the back. But in re-installing I'm noticing what for sure looks like a channel to drain to the front as well. Except there is no hole for the water to exit there.
Is this a quirk of an early '92 car? Or are all 968's like this? I park outside a lot and even with a cover on, water gets in there so I its a habit to always park nose uphill so water flows to the rear and out.
battery compartment - left is rear, right is front.

It is mainly for rain water that runs of your windschield
I dont see a reason the water would run to the higher elevation part

The only drainage out of there is that rear area, be sure to hit that with a hose every so often as they easily get clogged up and do not drain. You have the same drain over beside the fuse panel, keep these open and check annually as they get clogged very easily.
Thanks guys. John I hope to meet you someday - I'm also in VA. I wasn't very clear - apologies for that - I didn't properly emphasize the true nerdiness of the question It's all about the shape of the tray bottom, which seems to have been designed for *two* drains, one front, and one rear. If you park level, the front of the box lets water sit in the front channel, 'cause no way out, really, until the water evaporates, or you drive up a hill.
